Easy. Take strong armies, go building strong lists, dont make exploitable errors. Done.

I agree with this except for the first word :)

Great weekend again, Britcon is a fantastic wargaming event. 4k really is the best points level for EA, it's more forgiving of mistakes and allows more tactical play IMO
Wish I could justify it; I do wonder how late into the evening you would need to run a 1-day 4k tournament...

Allowing 3 1/2 hours per game, 15 minutes between games 2+3, 30 mins for lunch 8.30 start, all done by 8.00pm. That said due to most of the players using armies they knew well and a lack of hordesI think only 4 out of 24 games went to 3 hours this time.

Two issues with a one day 4K event.

1 - A venue that stays open to 8 or later.

2 - Everyone travelling home after nearly 12 hours of gaming would be a tough sell.

Given most forces are reasonably well balanced i'd actually suggest more taking stuff that suits your playstyle over just what someone might consider 'strong', the biggest thing i can suggest though is play as regularly as you can, and against as top notch opponents as possible - there really is no substitute for experience :) If i've got reasonably good now it's in no small part thanks to reasonably regular games in tournaments against talented opponents :)

Great weekend gents and I hope that you have all forgiven me for playing go big or go home list. It was a challenge from my side if not always a balanced battle.

@MephistonAG

thanks for the hard work on the Epic UK results but it seems my club Central London Wargames Club keeps adding more and more players all the time, even though they are not CLWC players.

Britcon:
Robin Perry - which I know from Facebook, lives in Gateshead. That's almost 300 miles from CLWC.

Exeter:
Richard Deane - no idea
Glen Shiner - no idea
Michael Ormiston - no idea

Mercenaries perhaps?

Talking of which though, it would be quite interesting to see points by club for a year as well as players :) Granted the north would be likely smashing the southern clubs, but it would at least give us something to aspire to ;)

Whoops! Used the wrong code when I set them up. Should all be back to mercs now :D

Thanks for fixing. If you are feeling so inclined you could change myself (Chris Richards), Glen and Micheal to "Wizards and Warlords club, Truro." Might help as a recruiting tool. :-)

Sarcasm detector on : It wasn't our choice, let's put it that way ! ;-) I always think it sounds like a 70s D&D supplement, which I guess has a kind of retro chic ring to it ! :-D
