Hey, long time listener, first time caller, so I thought I'd start off with a project I've finally managed to move from concept to execution - a 3mm scale "Mercenary War" in a fictional post-ultramodern Sci Fi South America. I've been doing small unit skirmishes at 6mm scale for this milieu (I'll post about that some other time) but this is the first sizable force I've produced so far.

The unit is a detachment from the Regimento Acero, a mercenary force from Argentina, which has been hired by the government of the Republic of Costaguana to train and support their enthusiastic but sadly-lacking conscript army in preparation for an invasion of the neighboring Republic of Sulaco. The force consists of a company of hovertanks, a SAM and MLRS element, and a company of IFVs, carrying the CostaguaƱero trainees.

The troops of the Regimento Acero are experienced and battle-hardened, and consummate mercenaries in the best tradition - they don't do anything halfway, and they don't come cheap. If the checks keep clearing, they'll fight like pros, but if the money stops...

The RA fought most famously (or infamously) in a previous conflict called the First Upheaval, in which they sided, controversially, with the Russian Confederation when they began an ill-fated and ultimately abortive "intervention" in Venezuela. They also were involved in the Battle of the Argentine Moons, where they used tactical nuclear weapons to cover their retreat. They are singularly indifferent to public opinion. The Argentinean government would have had them liquidated years ago if they didn't also have strong connections to powerful interests in governments across the globe, and in the Offworld Colonies. At best, they're held at arm's length even by those who need their expertise and fighting skill - they stick to their contracts, but can be creative when it comes to interpretation.
