Well it usually helps if you shoot their main weapons before they get shot at.

Again a great big thanks to everyone this last weekend for making the tournament so easy to run.

My reports before I forget all the details.

First game vs Russell (AMTL)
Right I thought let’s have a go at bringing these down before they shoot me to pieces. We set up with me hiding as much as possible and the titans spreading out across the table. Terminators teleported in behind the second Warlord without any Blast Markers and I preceded to lose the roll off. Warlord broke the terminators and a Reaver tried to finish them off leaving only the Daemon Prince. The rest of the game saw me raising daemons and engaging two of the Reavers whilst Russell’s CC Reaver made a mess of my right flank. Overall I scored 4 criticals over three Reavers all of which repaired and at the end of the game even managed to bring the BTS Warlord down to one DC – my BTS retinue advanced end of turn three and shot it followed by Sustaining turn 4 to break and cause the damage, unfortunately for me no criticals and nothing able to get that last DC point.
Game concluded with points draw to Russell.

Second game vs Richard (Steel Legion)
Well not our more accustomed meeting point in a tournament, but we do generally end up playing. The Steel Legion covered most of their deployment zone, but with no war engines my space craft could only bombard the surface, managing to miss all bar a rough rider and three infantry, two infantry died. It was a cagey start to the game with Richard pushing scouts forward and then following up with mechanised infantry and the tanks. This went well until on his left flank a mech company failed to activate and the Vultures hade to try and fill in. This left a space for my terminators to come in looking to have a go at the BTS Tank Company. Richard has previously recounted the SL winning the roll off, tanks sustaining, terminators saving, infantry failing to activate and shooting killing two terminators and breaking the remainder. With two of the forward formations activated I picked on his third and went after as many formations as possible. This lead to engagement’s left right and centre, but with the Black Legion raising daemons to get into base contact or hiding behind Death Wheel void shields the assaults generally went my way and I scored a good win.

Third game vs Mike (Black Legion)
So from the same army list two subtlety different armies I had two Death Wheels to Mike’s two Feral Titans, both had a garrisoning BTS retinue, but mine had three Obliterators to his one. Mike had two terminators (formations of 4) to my one of 6. I had two formations of Hellblades to Mike’s one whilst Mike had more retinues and Daemons. We both had Decimators, Devastation Cruisers and Havocs (except my Havocs had Landraiders instead of Rhinos). Where we differed was that I had Raptors and Bikes to Mikes two armoured companies. My spacecraft got to choose first and went for first turn, Mike held back his terminators whilst mine came down.
Then the almost perfect storm started. I won the first turn roll-off, raised the Greater Daemon of Khorne and engaged the BTS retinue, took overwatch fire and kep on going. GD missed all his TK hits, supporting fire from both Ferals only hit once and was saved, combat was one by the terminators and the lone surviving stand, Obliterator, ran off. I then tried to retain with the spacecraft failed and bumped Mike’s spacecraft back a turn to turn three. With nothing else near his forces Mike then concentrated on breaking and wiping out the terminators, but good saves and poor hitting meant that they only broke losing the Greater Daemon, but possibly ready to come back. I sent my fighters after the Obliterator and with the second set killed him and got BTS. My other forced pushed forward to engage the next turn. Terminators rallied.
Mike then teleported his two terminators into the centre of the table ready for a big fight off. I one the roll-off again which sealed their fate. Death Wheel engaged and broke one formation whilst the Decimator shot and broke the other. Mike chipped back at my forces, but I was able to engage two retinues and break them. The Hellblades then finished off both formation to reduce Mike’s activations. However, whilst I was doing this, Mike was breaking and destroying my forward formations and bringing out his Ferals taking the game into a fourth turn. I managed to keep the pressure on hold my objectives and keep my half clear to win 3-0.

Fourth game vs Mark (Orks)
So last game top two fight it out. Mark had been feeling his way back after being out of the tournament scene for a bit, but his dice and tactics were up to scratch. Mark had also taken a Great Gargant which I decided to leave right alone. Instead my terminators went off after a Blitz Brigade and I failed to win the roll-off for the third time out of four when teleporting. One BB ran up the table and the second retreated to leave blast markers and overwatching big guns as the only target for them. So they were duly engaged and wiped out. Mark engaged the terminators and Decimator with two different Landas fully loaded with Warbands, breaking both formations. I tried to pick off formations whilst staying out of the way of the Gargant and Supa-Stompa mob. In the end I had to have a go at the Stompa and managed to break it whilst the Gargant retreated to prevent the Bltiz falling. I claimed all three in my half and Mark failed to rally any of the three broken formations in my half giving a 2-0 win to me. (I’ll add that I did manage to roll 5 1’s in a row during the last turn to fail to activate formations with blast markers and navy which would have made my finish even stronger.)

So first place overall and a good run out for my Black Legion. See all you at Britcon.

If Mike chose turn 2 for his Space Craft then yours should have gone to turn 3, it doesn't bump the opponents back a turn.
4.3.2 Carrying Out The Operation
Quote:
Spacecraft operations take place in the action phase of the turn. Simply take an action test for the spacecraft as you would for any other formation. If the test is passed, the spacecraft may make orbital bombardments, pin-point attacks, and carry out a planetfall as described in the ections that follow (see 4.3.3, 4.3.4 & 4.4).
After any attacks or landings have taken place, the spacecraft model is removed. If the test is failed then the spacecraft has been delayed and fails to arrive this turn; you may roll for it again next turn as long as no other spacecraft are scheduled to arrive that turn. If the next turn has been taken, then the delayed spacecraft will arrive in the first available free turn.

Ah, well we both thought it was bumped and should know better.
