Thought for the day•Blessed is the mind too small for doubt

//identities redacted

~Speaker A:
It's readily apparent that we're now dealing with a legionary force, perfidious in cause, from the IV Legion Astartes. The data presented to the Synod from Inquisitor [~redacted] is beyond question. The crusade is facing a traitor incursion of sizable strength.

~Speaker B:
Traitors most foul, the scions of the thrice cursed Perterabo, the Iron Warriors. The pictograph evidence shows their markings without question. The armaments and vehicles illustrating their alignment to the core of the arch traitor. Such venerable equipment surely a sign of a force directed from the Emperors son himself.

~Speaker C:
Yes these are designs are the rare Deimos pattern. Confirmed and authenticated by the Mechanicum liaison, Faustius. The IV legion was renown for their technical acumen. Remaining historical records confirm the issuance of the Phobos pattern to the legion; The superior designs fielded by our holy armies...

~Speaker A:
I've long contended in the eye of terror, to which the traitors were cast, time flows not as we understand it. It's obvious they are still fighting the great scouring. For them only a few short years have passed...

~Speaker C:
We've all heard your preposterous theories before, [~redacted]. The evidence marked item....Q45#alpha-6, from [~redacted] during the siege has been confirmed and counter-confirmed by the Adepts of Mars via molecular sequencing, nano-augur resolution, and Psychometric analysis by own Ordos to not be of Imperial Manufacturing. It's apparent these are self forged and maintained.

~Speaker B:
Surely then from the fallen brothers of the Mechanicum?

~Speaker D:
The Deimos pattern equipment was known for the superior engine craft, acceleration and weapon stabilization. True the Phobos carries substantially more effective armor but why deploy such equipment now, and in such quantities? The IV legion was famed as siege masters, world burners not armored combat...

~Speaker A:
THEY ARE ASARTES! War incarnate, crafted by the Emperor himself; Proficient in all forms of attack, defense, and strategy. We'd do well to remember the events of [~redacted] less such folly reoccur...

As the Imperials advanced towards the inner hive, increasingly cunning ambushes were encountered by the Guard forces. Long since relegated to reserve and second line defense forces, the Malcador Heavy tanks of the Iron Warriors were frequently used as the lynch pin of area defenses. Despite being considered to have an under powered engine for a tank of that size, the thick slab adamantium plates coupled with the claustrophobic conditions of Urban warfare made them almost impenetrable except to the largest tank killing weapons. This Malcador defnder tank detailed below was hit numerous timed with perpetrator rounds, only jamming the starboard track such was the survivalbility of this venerable design.

Often working in lances of 3, it was common for the Defender class Malcador to take station, usually hull down in the center position with wide angles of fire possible preventing any infantry assaults without severe repercussions. The battle equipped tank would be used in a suppression capacity, the demolisher and battle cannons able to take on enemy armor and light vehicles with ease. A third, an Annihilator configuration, would then be used to range further for precise long range anti-armor roles, usually landing the killing blow while the enemy focuses on the other two from an enfilade position. Despite the lackluster speeds attainable, the Malcador was heavy enough to punch through any barrier and batttlefield detritus encountered, such as heavy weapon craters, trench lines, or damaged buildings.

When battle was joined, the reserve tanks would be used in a counter offensive capacity to stop enemy advances and plug gaps in the battle line. The traitor forces were especially keen to use the Malcador Defender as a form of ultra heavy mobile bunker, often emplaced in semi permanent anti-personnel defenses such as seen with the second the tank on the left above.

\\\\
painters notes: More stuff stashed away from the times of naughtiness. The painting approach was similar though I went for an even more used and venerable look to the Malcadors. Grime and rust being found in every track and armour plate. The "damaged" Malcador was actually a pretty serious miscast that obviously I'd be unable to have corrected at this point. I figured that we'd tie that into that tank's story as having thrown a track. Put enough blended grey and black oils on anything and it looks like damage to the eye. I wanted these guys bases to have a serious "in the suck" look as they're moving through a previously heavily bombarded area. Numerous craters were built up from TP mache. Burn marks/rays are light dry brushing/spackling of Vallejo Intermediate Blue and then followed up with a custom blend of weather powders for depth.

I always figured that even though the IW carried away lots of heavy equipment, a marine is still too valuable to crew the tanks exclusively so likely the Iron Warriors conscript / slave armies would crew them, the officer/tank commanders themselves being Iron Warriors to instill fear and lead. At least that's the idea in my head to try and pull double duty with my chaos as Vraks traitors as well.
