They did CLWC proud - they just could not beat Richard. This puts them in the same category as everyone in the UK and Europe last year, so they are in a not so exclusive club of everyone there!

It was close, very close. To be honest I thought that CLWC had edged it up until the results were announced - 14 points between two sets of 5 players is hardly anything.

I had three great games. Firstly against Nick who had a very clever plan to make my Fighta-Bomma units struggle which worked a treat. He not only stopped my advance in its tracks but then had me on the back foot. Had to play it boring/safe and stop my advance and settle for a draw.

Next I played Gavin. He may disagree but neither of us played particularly well. I think Gavin will regret his spaceship not having a significant impact. My dice were amazing. 3-0 win.

Next I played Steve's squats. He was battering me from early on and it was one of those games where I had to hang in there and get what I could. My dice were also sub-optimal (which was fair enough after my luck against Gavin). He edged a winning draw in the third turn. He would have got more had we managed a fourth turn.

Overall a great event very ably and well organised by Florian. All three opponents were great sports. The winner today was the Epic scene in London.

First 3k tournament and three games against three very good opponents. I had a basic strategy in each to advance my three steel legion companies into a mutually supportive fairly compact area square with plenty of AA, terrain cover and far enough forward to get offensive objectives. This worked well enough against robs speed freaks and we had to call it a draw due to time. Charles had some appalling luck against me. Pretty much the worst thing possible when using teleporting terminators. Again we ran out of time and it worked out a draw based on kill points. Finally, my plan came unstuck against Richards tau. I couldn't get rid of those annoying tetras sticking marker lights on me and my army got shot to pieces. Overall it Was a lot of fun. Thanks for the games and organising. Also to Rob C for running the demo table - those death guard look fantastic

It was a fun day, and was good to finally have a proper inter-club event with the Central london lot :) I'd like to thank Florian for doing a sterling job on the organising front, and also for getting us such a nice trophy ;) We had a couple of guys for SW playing their first tournament, so thanks to everyone for making their day a (hopefully) enjoyable one!

DS made for a good venue, especially as the parking outside was free. Shame about the local food options, but then Costa's not a terrible choice i guess.

About the only thing that would have been nice i'd have said would have been starting a bit earlier, but that's always going to be an issue when you're playing on a Sunday i guess! We can always look at organising another at some point earlier and trying to bag a Saturday for it i guess :)

Yesterday was a great event and I had 3 brilliant games (though the one against Richard was a little traumatic).

Thanks to Charles, Rob and Richard for being great sports and opponents. Thanks to all SLWC for letting me take Squats! I've posted my thoughts on them here http://www.tacticalwargames.net/taccmd/viewtopic.php?f=134&t=29645%20would%20be would be great to hear opponents feedback.

FINAL RESULT

After the dust settled and i managed to fight of the pre-event hangover I am happy to official announce the South London Wargamers the winners of the 1st London Club Derby!

After 3 rounds of 3000points games they managed a very hard fought for 292 - 278 VP, just being 14 VP ahead of the team of CLWC!
Well deserved and great sports all-around.

They are taking home the official London Club Derby trophy and will come back to defend it in the next event.

Meanwhile the team of the CLWC will practise hard in their dojo.

The TO also wants to give out extra props to forum user Robert Crowhurst for running the demo table which saw several games and lots of interest for his fantastic miniatures.
Same to Dark Sphere for yet again providing a great venue for London's tournament scene.

Thanks again to everybody who showed up on the day and hope you all as much fun as i did and see you all again next time. :)
Last but not least stay tuned for more in-game pictures to be published soon.

Dude, 14 VP :{[] :{[] :{[]
Maybe next time you'll be able to make the difference yourself?! ;)

On a serious note, i am happy with my own performance and also how the list turned out.
R1 : 2-0 victory
R2 : draw in my favour
R3 : straight draw

No losses ;D

Feel like i gave the Death Korps a nice farewell before they get replaced by the angry robots.

Well done SWL and commiserations to CLWC. Looks like it was a close run thing.

To echo the others, many thanks to Florian for organising this and to Dark Sphere for the excellent venue.

My initial game was against Chris and his Eldar, with its considerable amount of AA. Consequently I elected to planetfall to avoid the issues, which did phase Chris a little. This was compounded by his Void Spinner failing to activate. We swapped attacks and assaults as normal up to the point where things took a very bizarre turn. After using his Nightwings to lay a BM on my Devastators BTS, he assaulted them with Warp Spiders in the second Vampire. The Devastators used their OW fire on the infantry gaining 6 hits instead of the 2 that were expected, which were all failed breaking the assault before it had started. The game was called at the point, a straight draw.

Rob has explained our game. Highlights were the mind games over where I had plotted the barrage and watching his troops panic to avoid it only to be told that I had planned for this panic and plotted it elsewhere :D . However normal service resumed in the 2nd turn and I ended the game with a single ThunderHawk . . . . 3-0 to Rob

Last game against Barry and his AMTL was possibly the best. I worked out exactly where the Titans were going to be, hitting the Warlord dead centre together with another Reaver, but only stripped a single shield. The terminators had teleported into the position to assault his 'barrage' Reaver, but were wiped out. Then the Warlord lead the charge to the table centre where I managed to line up two Warhounds and some Landspeeders to support the assault by the bikes in a ThunderHawk. Three bikes went down for a single point of damage on the beast leaving the fight tied and I was stunned when the resolution also tied. In the second round the remaining bikes were wiped out for a further three points of damage, and in a complete reversal of my usual luck two went critical and Barry managed to throw 'snake eyes' to have his BTS blow up in spectacular fashion. The marines tried unsuccessfully to repeat the feat in the 2nd turn leaving formations dangerously close to a second Reaver in the centre. Fortune swung again and Barry won the strategy roll for the first time in the day, shooting the Devastators to bits but his 'barrage' Reaver shooting only hit a Rhino which miraculously survived giving me the game 2-0

Our lack of vampires was the problem. :-)

Agree. Fair play just gets you nowhere in life.
