So I have a few questions about how Ork Waaghs work that will affect how I paint and build my army.

At the moment I am planning on having a Warband to represent a few of the different Ork Clans. I'm leaning towards a Ghazgkhull horde from the netEA book at the moment.

-Do Clans typically intermingle in one warband? So would I have Bad moons being the heavy weapon troops in an Evil Sunz warband? It seems like they should not intermingle...

-It looks like there are two types of heavy weapon on the Ork sprues. However I can only find one reference to a thing that sounds like a heavy weapon, the "Big Gunz". Is this the only type of infantry carried heavy weapon?

-The mono-pose Nobs look incredibly boring all just on stands together. Is there some way to vary the nob stands, or put nobs on some boyz stands while still sticking to the rules and the theme of the army?

-If I use Snakebite monsters as stompas, and boarboys as bikes is this acceptable when the snakebite army list is not being used?

I'm sure I have more questions than this, but this should do for now.

Thank you for your help everyone,
Bert

Hello Bert,

I can only answer this Question. According to the Lore of GW the different Clans do not form joint Warbands. Usually all Clans are represented in an Ork Settlement. In Case of War they form Warbands or Mobs according to their Class Affiliation. So an Evil Sunz Warband will have only Orks of that Clan, while the Bad Moons will gather in their own Warbands.

Greetings,
Heinrich

Heinrich is right I believe, according to GW. But honestly, unless you are glued to GW fluff I wouldn't worry about it and paint them any colour you like. Orks ao rag tag any way, even in GW fluff that you can get away with it. My whole army is bad moons, including the snakebite stuff. But I dont follow GW fluff for anything anymore!

The rocket type boy is your infantry heavy weapon. The other gun is a def skull gun. I am not sure if they are used in NetEA, but they had rules in the old epic games. Big Gunz is probably a reference to the cannons and pulsa rockets etc... though I could be mistaken there.

The white dwarfs of old always suggests that you can cut some of the back banners off for variation. Mixing in other minis is fine as long as its still obvious that it is a Nob stand. Or pick up some trouble maker skinnerz. They have some really good nobs in heavy armour, and are superb minis.

But even using old GW ones works out fine. Check out warhamsters painting log for a really cool, perfect example of this....http://www.taccmd.tacticalwargames.net/viewtopic.php?f=119&t=29319&start=45

I am using a mix of trouble maker, GW and baccus goblins for my nob stands.

I don't see why not. But I don't know how others/tournament types would feel about this. but as long as you were clear about what is what I don't see why this is a problem. Especially as the snakebites have some of the best minis available! I think it is a good way to use minis that look cool, but would otherwise not be used! I don't have enough for a separate snakebite army so I am mixing them in with my standard one.

There have been several great looking ork armies posted in this forum over the years and the best looking ones usually have a mix of figures on the bases. Its worth taking a look at the various threads for inspiration.

Here's just a few I have saved from various posters.

OK, it's great to know the clans don't intermix. I like that, and will stick with it.

Hmm. This is actually still confusing to me.
So there is the rocket tube guy, and the guy with something like an autocannon, right?
So Big Gunz could actually be something completey different from these two?
And the rocket tube guy and the autocannon guy is a heavy weapon guy and a deathskull guy respectively?
Looking through what Moredakka posted I saw a lot of mixed in heavy weapons, but no stands that looked like they were supposed to be heavy weapon stands. So I'm still kind of at a loss as to how to do this and have a deathskulls warband, but also have Big Gunz in my other warbands.

I just placed an order yesterday on the TMG indiegogo page for a pack of 100 of the new skinners. On top of that I have about 470 Orks and gobbos from the old sprues. I think that should be enough to give variation in the Nob stands, as that is clearly the way to go. Thank you very much for the inspirational pics.

Thank you all for the fantastic answers. This is really helping!

The ork with a tube on his shoulder is supposed to be a plasma gunner from when orks used plasma weapons the other one is a heavy shoota boy. Most people intermix them to make shooty boyz stands. I had five shoulder mounted weapon orks per shooty boyz stand but you can put other figures on them too to save on weapons figures.

Big guns are more like the carriage mounted towed weapons which are used by all clans to some extent.

Also check out TMG's website for other skinnerz figures especially bosses.

I'd say they'd be unlikely to intermingle in a single formation. I plan to include at least one formation for each of the clanz plus freebooterz.

Yes. You can either use those infantry carrying heavy weapons with multiple on a stand as a Big Gun or one with regular orks as the stand's eavy shoota.

Nobz in 40k are both in dedicated formations and a single one as a leader of a formation of 10-30 orks. I'd stick the ocasional one in a boyz stand for this.

I suggest checking out Troublemaker Games Ork proxies too - they're excellent models with a lot more variety than the plastic epic ork nobz - http://troublemakergames.co.uk/did-skinnerz-leaders.htm

Completely fine and I do that too. You just need to quickly indicate at the start of the game what they 'count as' .

There were dedicated Big Gunz models too:

There are a couple of different ork infantry with heavy weapon models, most people intermix them but do whatever you think looks best.

Most of the them belong to theket, one of the best ork armies I have ever seen. I believe he spends most of his time on the french site, he seems to not have posted here in a while.

http://www.taccmd.tacticalwargames.net/ ... =7&t=20711

I have the other orks in my save file too, again another of the great armies here. I forget the name of the poster though of this one though, as I didn't save it as a link. If I remember I will add it on here for you.

edit: I had a brain wave and remembered whose they were as soon as I hit post!! ;D

GlynG is right, those are the big gunz I thought you might mean, but I was late for work and didn't have time to post photos. There is also the pulsa rockets, which are the same kind of thing, except with big rockets! His photo also has the shock attack gun, but I dont think that has rules anymore, just a big gun. I find that some of the ork stuff has lost its rules over the years but GW kept the minis in every edition. So you can just use them for what ever you want!

Sorry mate no can do because I simply don't remember who's threads I saved them from. ::)

I just save images that I like for future reference as I see them so I've something to look at for inspiration when it comes time to do such an army.

I'm sure they are all from this forum though.

Doh :-[ didn't read the post above this one when answering silly me.

Here's the link to my painted up Orks so far. May be worth a look for ideas. As I have all 6 major clans in my Ork Hordes ... http://s48.photobucket.com/user/Legion4 ... 7184476095

@Moredakka and @GlynG Thanks for the greatexplanations.

I didn't realise I could combine my shokk attack and artillery pieces too! I have about 16 stands of those, plus all the heavy weapon guys. I think I'll mostly give the artillery and shokk attack to the Bad Moonz (since they can afford Ork tech) and the heavy weapon stands to the DeathSkulls(cos they stole em). I'm converting half the big shootas to Lascannon and other cobbled together heavy weapons. I'm also hoping to see if I can build some pulsa rockets, or convert some of the plastic big gunz I have. So that should be a nice mix.
Other clans will get some heavy weapons, depending on which one.

Well, with the Skinners indiegogo I just backed, I now have over 550+ Ork infantry models to my name, so I'm not really in the place to buy 100 leaders, no matter how great they look. I think if I find someone is trading away 10-30 of them I might trade with that person, but I can't put more money down on an army I've barely built yet.

Having seen your army before, it's what made me decide I wanted to include snakebites, and do something special with them. So far I have three sizes of monsters from "bikes" to "Stompas" to "Gunfortresses". I'm trying to figure out how to convert the Orks to make them look feral like you've done. I've gone through your thread, and I'm going to see if I can come up with some of my own stuff too. Thanks again for the great inspiration.
