The something that Jon has demonstrated in his extreme air heavy lists (no one else fields them like Jon) is that they are completely ..... Potty ;D

To be fair though. If I was running the vans, I'd want lots of lightnings.
And a little sympathy with Gavin, always been dubious about long ranges from aircraft. Not perhaps for gameplay reasons though , just from a thematic point of view. Unless you have guided rockets its kinda tough to hit a target from range with a fixed wing aircraft. Anyhoo...

As I said earlier, Scutarii's list gave me a lot of problems with its immense firepower (something like 30BM in three formations and AT2+ rockets, albeit one-shot wonders). This meant my ground AA had to duck into cover, which in turn meant that my bombers and associated Vampire assault had to brave some Lightnings on CAP; I got off lightly with a single hit . . .

Scutarii's lightenings won him the game against my amtl. But then only by good luck. Without them he'd have had a total misery of a game.

I'm hoping that the SM2 and E40k tbolts are significantly distinguishable from each other to be used as such.... (not a fan of the massive FW versions)

All my flyers are SG scale so the lightnings present me with a conundrum. There are reasonable proxies, but my plan is to spend some time with blender and a 3D printer. Eventually. I guess I'm sort of hoping someone else will do it first.

The other option of course is to hold a regular tbolt over a lighter until it goes all melty and the wings droop... tadaaa! Your very own voss pattern lightning....

I attest to this wholeheartedly.

As I mentioned earlier after playing with the list I feel that I'd go without the Thunderbolts and take 3x Lightnings. In my testing beforehand I found the same thing and moved from 3x Thunderbolts to 2x Tbolt 1x Light to my final 1x Tbolt and 2x Light simply because the more focused AT it provided was more valuable.

Also I tried running with a full air wing during testing and found again that going without the sentinels is a bad idea.

In the tournament my 3 sentinel formations fired all of once (one formation was on overwatch when reedar's blitz brigade came into view of one sentinel who fired to suppress one of them). But they gave me time to stall out my core formations (meaning that my opponent's had to move their formations forward and my Air Cav Cos. then advanced and fired a barrage into them rather than having to double out to get the barrage's in range) and the sentinels grab and contest objectives.

Without the footprint on the ground of the sentinels it becomes way harder to control/contest those objectives. In my experience at least.

Gah, 2 weeks to Into the Breach and still need to decide which race to play!

The pictures do them an injustice, they are only 2D and you really need 3D to appreciate all the work put in. Also, you really need to get a close up of the Truks (1st pic) which for me at least were the highlight, because many had ejection platforms mounted on springs 't'get into battle kwiker'!

I still smile at the thought of someone singing "its raining Orks" :D

I have seen the photos (shared on FB by the owner of the local game store) and I have to say... superb!! you really know how to organize Epic events up there.

I'll try to put together an Epic tournament here and I'll be happy if it becomes 10% of that awesomeness ;D

The event looked like it had some great armies. I am very interested by the Vanahiem list. Seems interesting to play and very different to my Orks.
Lightnings seem like a very good choice for the list over the Thunderbolts. Not sure how I would deal with that much airpower.

Get at least one BM, preferably two, on them and they don't turn up next turn 50% of the time.

Looks like it was a really good tourney with some great looking armies ;)

Those Feral orks look fantastic! Could broken bayonet let us in on how they were made/what models were used?

Glad to :-). I don't regularly blog these days, but will certainly put up a Diggaz Dinosawwz Feral Ork thread soon (of my Wargamerama blog). Look out for link next week in the 6mm Modelling/painting section of Tactical Command.
