I'm thinking of getting into magnetising some minis - specifically at this time some leman Russ turrets and some metal reaver / plastic warlords. Nowhere local stocks them so can anyone recommend a good uk supplier of rare earth magnets ? eBay or eshop, not worried. Will I need multiple sizes or will I find one that will do all applications ?

I'm new to this so any advice gladly received. Cheers.

I have used this. Good service and a lot of different types of magnets http://www.supermagnete.fi/index.php?adwords_fi_fin_magnet_en&gclid=CPKvzayv4MACFYLFcgod124AFQ

UK, you say; can't help with that. I've had very nice experience with powermagnetshop.de though.

ON the subject, and rather than add a new post, what do people use to magnetise their infantry stands (if anything). Want to store my guys in formations, and have some steel sheet, but want to see what the thinnest magnetic sheeting is like, and where folks get it from.

Cheers.

The cheapest supplier I've found are guysmagnets.com - huge variety of shapes and sizes, and cheaper than eBay for what I was looking for last time, especially for small quantities.

For infantry, I used some 2-part custom bases with metallic sheet for the bottom half, these then stick well to magnetic sheeting. For regular bases I imagine self-adhesive magnetic sheet would be fine, you want it as thin as possible though I imagine.

For weapons, anything metal or long (i.e. the tip of the weapon is far from the attachment point) will need something reasonably strong. I tried 2x1mm and this was too small, though it should be OK for small plastic weapons. I also have 4x1.5mm and these provide a very secure attachment (possibly too strong as if you're not careful the magnetic pull is stronger than the superglue). They were the perfect width for my application but something ~3mm might be better.

I've been using magnetic paper/sheets like you'd get for making fridge magnets. I just cut them up to shape and stick them under the base.
