Just something for us to decide about this board.

Should it be used, like the army list boards, as discussing possible changes or amendments to the core rules, or it should be used to discuss how the rules work as well?

I think that it would be best to use this board only to discuss changes and amendments, and have actual rules questions, i.e. 'how does rule x work?', or 'I don't understand rule y', posted in the main NetEpic board. This would also be consistent with the army list boards, which are currently used to discuss amendments, changes, and typos/errors.

What do the rest of you think?

Hi!

I would agree. It has become somewhat confusing what board to post to. We have created quite a few and have forgotten to post directly to the net epic section, without necessarily posting to a specific board.

If this "NetEpic Core" board is intended to be just for discussions about possible rule changes, then shouldn't it be a sub-board of the "NetEpic Platinum" board? To me, being placed where it is currently says that it is intended for all questions related to the Core Rules in any way.

Hi!

I'm going to have to look over the structure of these boards. A lot has been added with little eye towards what the purpose is.

Unfortunately this needs Cybershadow to change, since I don't have the user permissions to create or delete them. I'm not sure I can even move them.

I'm sure CS will be able to accommodate any moves required.

I've been posting to Net Epic Core a lot just now because some of the questions I'm raising I feel maybe need some clarification in the Net Epic rules. It's up to everyone else to decide whether any of these questions / answers should have lead to any amendments in the rule books.

I think that a review of all the boards that have been created would be a very good idea, as I think that we've ended up with too many. A proposed restructuring could go a little like this:

Net Epic - This is the main board which should be used for all rules questions, general questions/discussion, tactics, and army lists.

Because there are fewer players for NetEpic than EA, I don't think that separate boards for tactics and army lists can be justified.

Net Epic Core Rules Amendments, Changes, and Updates - This is a child board for discussion of possible changes to the core rules. These would be minor to clear up ambiguous wording or fix errors in the book. Major rule changes would belong in......

Net Epic Alternative Rules (Could rename this Net Epic Platinum or Net Epic Rules Development) - This is a child board for major changes or reworking of the NetEpic rules.

Note that I think that we need to merge the Platinum and Alternative Rules boards. Having two boards for development of rules outside of Gold seems a bit over the top to me, unless I'm missing something. If I am, please say so :).

Net Epic Army List Development - This is a child board for development of Gold, Platinum, and Alternative army lists. Please tag your topic as either [Gold], [Platinum], or [Alternative]. Note that Gold lists are fixed for the most part, so only mistakes, ambiguous wording, or minor changes should be discussed in relation to these lists.

There isn't enough activity to justify a separate child board for every army list.

Net Epic Battle Reports and Net Epic Background - These would remain as they are.

Finally, The EpiCentre board seems dead, could that just be archived?

Hi!

These are good suggestions. I will think them over and post a finalized version for commentary, since I don't what to make Cybershadow work to hard. :)

I disagree in part. In my view, the Army Lists do deserve their own board. They probably do not each need their own child board however. Having all of the individual threads, so long as they are clearly named, in the same board should be sufficient. This is because there is ongoing development happening there, primarily with the Points Cost Formula values being posted. Without the Army Lists board, I would have to post these lists in the Alternate Rules board.

Similarly, the Alternative Rules and the Platinum boards should not be merged, as they have different purposes. The Platinum board is specifically for the development of Platinum, whereas the Alternate Rules one is for development of rules and systems that can be used with either Gold or Platinum or even with neither (IE Evolution).

Aside from the above I either agree with the suggestions or do not have an opinion.

Hi!

If anyone has an outline on how the forums should be setup, post them here. :)

That's exactly what I was suggesting, isn't it? What I was outlining above was for army lists to have their own board for development with appropriate tags. The main NetEpic board can be used for posting army lists for review though. That way we keep development and other changes to the list separate from everything else, which is what you're indicating you would like. Or have I misunderstood what you're saying?

I'd argue that Gold shouldn't have alternative rules, but if everyone else wants a board for that purpose then that's fair enough.

Net Epic is an alternative rules set (to 2nd edition) so again I'm puzzled why there should be an objection to alternative rules to the alternative rules of Net Epic Gold.

The reason we are working on alternative rules is because we all believe there are ways which we think we can improve on Gold...

I'm sorry, maybe I've not woken up properly yet! :-\

Also, I'm in favour of each army having a sub forum for army lists. As mentioned, Magnus has been carrying out a substantial amount of work on the army lists. It's easier to keep track of each army list's specific updates of they are in a separate forum. Once the project is completed I wouldn't be against this being rolled into a single forum though.

I have the feeling that this is a case of you and I visualizing things differently. In this paragraph, I see you saying essentially: "We should have all of the army list posts in one board, except that some army list posts should be over here." In my view, we cannot have "all of the posts" in one place if some of them are in a different place. How is "review" different from "development"? As far as I am aware, review is a step in the process of development, thus they should be in the same board.

In your older post, you seem to contradict yourself. First you post:

Irisado wrote:

Which to me says that you think that there should not be an army list board at all. Then you say:

Irisado wrote:

Which is suggesting that there actually be a board for army lists.

My post that you replied to was in reference to you seeming to be saying that there should not be a board for army lists at all. Apparently I missed that you later contradicted yourself further in the same post. My guess is that you didn't intend to contradict yourself, but rather just didn't explain something clearly. If that is the case, then please explain why you said that there should not be a board for army lists when you clearly think that there should be.

There's no contradiction, I just didn't explain what I meant by army lists in the first instance ;).

If you look at all the EA boards, you'll see that they have a general board (which we currently have for NetEpic), but a separate board for tactics and army lists. What that board is for is for members of the community to post their army lists for review and for tactical assistance. What I meant was that NetEpic doesn't currently have enough players to justify having a board for that. That type of army list discussion can be handled on the main NetEpic board.

Where an army list board is necessary is for development and revisions, such as those we have been discussing for Gold, including things like your points cost formulae. I don't think we need a separate board for every NetEpic army list to do this, as is currently the case though, so we could merge all of them into one board called NetEpic Army List Development.

I hope that explains what I mean more clearly.

A bit clearer, but not much. I'm still seeing "all of them go here except for some". Perhaps if I define what I am thinking a bit more clearly.

In my mind, an "Army list" is a listing of all of the models and their costs available to a given Faction (Eldar, Chaos, etc) along with their available formations and costs thereof. Stats for the models are optional if already known. From this list a player may construct their forces for a battle.

I find it difficult to believe (as I have not looked) that the EA forum has several active people constantly posting new or revised Army lists of this type. I suppose it is possible.
