The issue is with 8 players it gets really difficult to do the draw in rounds 5 and 6. Top players end up with those at the bottom which isn't the ideal situation.

Do we need to consider seeding then if numbers are low?

Nice :) there's a fair few bits on my shopping list this year, and a discount is always welcome!

Eight players over six rounds is almost a full round-robin... just need to skip one pairing per player - which could be done by seeding or random draw - as someone who usually sits in the mid-table, I have no preference either way.

I would really really love to come, but the combination of needing 2 nights accomodation + beer tokens AND the wife working weekends, AND being away from my son all weekend really kills it for me.... hopefully the event will still be running in 5 years time when my son no longer wants anything to do with me and hopefully the missus will have a better job with hours more conducive to my wargaming habit....

This.

Like this and if we do end up at eight I think its the way to go, with the round where 1 should play 8, 2 plays 7 etc skipped, seeding done by players win percentage on the Epic-UK site.

I've not been to Britcon, all the standard factors apply:
Length - I don't mind staying a night once in a while, but it's harder to justify 3 days away instead of spending with the family. Maybe toy soldiers just doesn't seem a "valid" excuse? Not insurmountable though. But BTW 8am on a Friday wouldn't make any difference at all though.
Location - if I'm picking events, most others are much closer.
Cost - accommodation for two nights is an obvious cost (though the per night rate is not bad), but £50 is also a lot compared to the other events. I guess the crux is, I'm not that interested in the show so I'm basically paying £50 + £70 room + £70 fuel + food etc for the privilege of playing Epic.

However despite all that I do want to come, except:
Timing - this has actually been what has stopped me every year since I came back to epic (3 years?). Summer is generally a busy time for social engagements, though I suspect it will get better in years to come (fewer weddings). This year I have a baby due mid august. Depending when it arrives I might have problems in future years too...

All the above tend to apply to many people. I suspect the main gripe is that August is 'holiday time' for many with kids. And I agree that travel can be a pain.

To me, the main appeal is 4K games which can be very different . . .
And there are six of them . . .

However, in your case a sprog trumps all the above - good luck mate.

First time I've applied paintbrush to models for some time to get my army up to 4000pts painted!

My ticket now bought, so that's 5. Just pondering accommodation options now.
