Idea:
They don`t need to but the Tzacol are THAT advanced that being actually present at a battle is some kind of sport for them. They don`t take battle serious. If they die they just are reborn or something.
It's not anew idea because the Shaltari of Drpzone Commander are similar. When they ar ebirn they are called Firstbierns and go to battle on a modern battlefield armed with a pistol and a sword(!). Their first live is something o a rite of passage to them.

Are you suggesting that behind those dreadlocked predator masks are froggies?

The fluff needs to give us a reason as to why these guys would fight in person.

Advanced species would have mind-state recordings and full-body replacements. They'd either go into combat fully backup-up and ready to be restored from an up-to-the-second current backup, or they would send recorded personalities in clone bodies, to be re-integrated if they survive.

Why would they need to be there vs sitting in a bunker across the universe? how about some quasi-techno-trek like this=>

Well how about when they are using their super advanced technology say to disassemble and teleport and destroy an enemy, they're tweaking the quantum waveform of the constituent particles that make up the target to collapse into a probability that makes the position realize next to the stars corona but in order to accomplish that, the enormous mental processing power of the Tzacol must be brought to bear to accomplish the feat. Unfortunately as the speed the quantum information must be processed at requires close range as even tunneling provides an unacceptable delay.

Hi!

If they are so advanced they don't show up in person, then there isn't much point in making models for them. ;)

I'm much less into something "unique" or "different", than into something that can produce an actual playable force on the battlefield.

Fluff is one thing, but it must bow to the practicalities of the models (and types of models) that can be used in a game.

Sort of like spaceships in EA, then? ;-)

I am interested in trying something truly different. Not just 20th century tactics grimdarkened up again.

Having said that. In terms of units, I wonder if not most of what has been discussed about lifespan/reanimation and teleporting is in fact already covered by them undead pyramid robots?

One of the AT-43 factions, the Therians, were so super advanced that, in general, the race as a whole paid no attention at all to all the lower life forms. The "combat" forces deployed in the game were basically their version of teenagers who decided to go out and poke some ant hills. All the super advanced, cannot be comprehended military tech they used on the battlefield was basically their race's equivalent to RC cars and nerf guns.

All Daecon's mini's are great in my opinion, so I'm confident the TZACOL'll look mighty fine too. How much longer Daecon? I'd like to start the countdown to Frog-goodness :)

Well, in my initial write-up, I had an idea for this. Let's see if it still works.

Basically, the Frogulans did use robots and servant species in the past. That's where the Phaerons came from. The problem is that, especially when your main mode of war is you and your hyper-advanced opponent throwing alternate histories at one another, a servant race is bound to rebel against you. After many bitter experiences, the Frogulans now do all their fighting in person.

It would seem unlikely that you would find anywhere near enough warriors in a largely peaceful race. Their culture would fall apart if it tried conscription. Perhaps one Frogulan in a hundred thousand is interested in becoming a soldier, and even fewer join the ground forces. Fortunately this has never been a problem.

Most of the Frogulan empire sprawls out over hundreds of lightyears and eons of artificial space and quasi-time. The part you can actually see is large by human standards but is only a very tiny remnant of the whole that is kept largely for historical and cultural reasons. When humans raise an army, they gather everyone in the country and organize them into an army. The Frogulans do this; however, they also aggregate their armies across broad swaths of history. So when you join up because your father and grandfather did, you'll probably end up serving next to younger versions of them. Then, add in the fact that Frogulan empires from many historical epochs and alternate timelines all deploy forces from the same region of space, and a almost pacifist race can suddenly seem incredibly warlike.
