So I was thinking about some amazing buys I have gotten over the years, and wanted to share them, as well as hear some of yours.

Prob one of the greatest hauls I ever got, was not too long after Epic 40k got dropped. I rejected Epic 40k like everyone else, but out of curiosity I picked up the three rulebooks for cheap off ebay just to breeze thru. After reading them, I was really impressed and decided to buy the starter set for a good price. So I win an auction that not only has the new sealed starter set, but some extras too. About a week after I get the package I get another from the same guy, and this one has a ton of Eldar minis and some sprues, with a note saying: "Hi, I had these extra Eldar miniatures set aside, but forgot to put them in the box!"

He sent me a bunch of Falcons, Fire Prisms, a Scorpion, a Cobra, couple of Night Spinners, Wave Serpents, and even the newer Eldar Phantom. I had no idea he had these, and he could have easily just listed them on Ebay, but was cool enough just to send them to me out of his pocket. I was floored. I didnt even have any interest in building an Eldar army at the time. But I dived right into Epic 40k and it was good.

Another that stands out was when I met this guy thru ebay that was selling me bits of his collection on the side. I kept telling myself enough is enough, but he had so much Imperial Guard and Orks I couldnt get enough. He sold me like 20 Imperial Psykers. Yes, the same guy that comes on the Epic 40k spru. He gave me 20. That is how much this guy had. Anyway, finally I made what I told him would be my last order and when I got the box, it was like, what was left of his entire Ork collection. He said he just happy it was going to a good home. Something like 50 or so of the death wheel battlewagons, a dozen of the newer metal buggies, a dozen field guns, wartracks, weirdboy towers, etc, and tons and tons of infantry and plastic Warbikes, etc. I couldnt believe it. Oh, and a bunch of the REALLY old original AT/SM1 Ork vehicles and field guns. I loved those. Still can't believe I got all that.

Got the Codex Titanicus (the original one) complete for like $10 that was nice.

I also get pretty excited thinking about getting a sealed Space Marine v1 set as well as a barely touched Adeptus Titanicus to replace my long lost ones for half of what I would have been willing to pay. I still get giddy over those.

And finally, reached out to an ebayer who was selling some White Dwarfs which had some of the older AT/SM1 rules, and asked if he had more, and that I would send him a list of those issues I was looking for. He had everything and we worked out a deal. So I was able to get every article, ad, battle report, etc for AT/SM1 that ever appeared in White Dwarf in one shot, and I was prepared to buy them all individually. Tore them all up to combine them in one sprial notebook. Man I need to post some pics of these.

Anyway, those are my favorites. What are yours.

right when GW dropped specialist games last April, one of my fishing threads over on warseer hooked a dude who told me he had a box of epic eldar bits he wanted to sell cheap, I said I might be interested, if he had a rough list of stuff in the box, and also told me how much he wanted

He told me he wanted £60 for the box and sent me a picture.....

I nearly tore his arm off there and then, there was well over £400 worth of stuff in there, 20+ new style falcons, 7 E40k cobras, 4 scorpions, nightwings, vampires, titans, vypers, night spinners, fire prisms.... the list goes on

when we were finalising payment he told me he knew GW had stopped producing epic but even though he felt like he was selling off the gold before the goldrush, he was happy it was going to a good home

I reckon it's the best deal I've ever made, miniatures wise

Hi!

Oh, primarch is really goods at getting deals.... ;)

1. From GW: right after the epic 40k flop the old troll bargain basement sales. Leman russ blisters with 3 models for 2 dollars each, great gargant boxed sets for 5 dollars each. Never again would such deals be seen from GW.

2. One guy wanted to sell a whole slew of unopened blisters from the epic 40k era. Total retail price in excess of 2400 dollars. I paid 600. ;)

3. I was was given 3 boxes of the old plastic warlords (many still on sprues 18 warlords total) for FREE! the guy was not playing anymore and I asked him what he planned to do with them and he said "take them". I did. ;)

4. FW stuff. Normally you could not get discounts on these. Margins were to low for retailers to bother selling them. I made a deal with a hobby store owner for a large order at cost and I paid him a 5% commission for his troubles. You may wonder why not sell them at full cost and make all the profit. I simply told him that making 5% off one of my large orders was better than ZERO, since I would eventually convince someone else (if not just reactivate my old account), so he figured some money was better than none. ;)

I have many smaller ones that I can't remember the specifics. For some reason people liked just giving me stuff they didn't want for epic. I never say no, so it usually got around that you could dump your epic wares with me. That and buying epic at retailer discounts (50%) made the primarchload what it is. ;)

Hi!

It's all luck mixed in with opportunity.

If you were in the right places after the epic 40k flop, you would lace your collection with whatever you wanted. People were literally giving their stuff away.

It was a unique period that has never been replicated. To bad it also meant the demise of epic as a core game (As well as the end of its golden age).

I once traded a dozen or so RAFM Heavy Gears (I paid $5-6 a piece for them) for...

all 3 Ordanatus
4 Milkfloat Warlords
9 SM/TL IG super-heavies
a smattering of various SM/TL IG
and an unassembled Warmonger

Last year at a local con I got (all new):

20 units of Warmaster Kislev for $30
an E40k boxset for $10
Titan Legions boxset for $10
Mighty Empires (90s version) for $10
Boat loads of 40k to sell for $120

This year, at the same con, I got some BFG:

4 Imperial Destroyers
3 Imperial Frigates
2 Imperial Light Cruisers
1 Stirke Cruiser
1 Battle Barge
6 Chaos Escorts
1 Chaos Battleship
8 plastic cruisers

... for $10

And $550 of 40k which I sold to finance some 10mm Landsknecht Zweihanders.

Damn... $10 for the Epic 40k set is a great deal. I got a sealed one off Ebay once for $17 back in the day.

Oh, I forgot one of my favorites. When GW was clearing out Epic 40k stuff, I bought 5 Epic Tyranid Sprues for $3.50 each. Well, a few days after they arrived, I got another 5 from GW. Then a few days later, another 5. Then 2 more after that. I got a total of 25 sprues from 5 individual shipments, then I only ordered once. The only thing I could think of was their computer system had a clitch and they were shipping out things repeatedly without realizing it. Whatever it was, I was appreciative, but wished I had ordered a few 40k Land Raiders instead :p

The only disappointment I have with this time period is the lack of expanded rules for Aspect Warriors, which means the only 2 troop types available to the eldar were avenging warriors and swooping hawks, who used shuriken pistols back then.

Man we played the hell out of this system, and loved it.

This is how I was able to afford an IG army.

Hi!

Nice idea that KTG17 of putting them in a binder. I will copy that since I am removing the binding from mine for scanning.

Cool idea!

If only there was a device that could scan a piece of paper by shining white light on it and utilizing an electronic eye to record the refracted colors assembling it into a format that would.be viewable and furthermore, probable by some type of computation device. Alas...

Hi!

I've often dreamed of such a thing. But as you say, alas it doesn't exist.

So unbinding combined with document feeding is the only option left. :(

I could never have gotten the great deals some of you have managed as I've only gotten back into 6mm in the past year or so.

However I did get a Squat army in exchange for a few blood bowl mini that were leftovers that I didn't want to use in my completed teams. I got a land train, a colossus and Leviathan, 7 copters, 6 tunnelers, bikes and trikes a couple of other things including a bunch of infantry.

It was really great because what i offered I thought was only enough to get me the tunnelers and a few copters.

The only other thing that could be considered a deal would be I was given one of only 300 copies of Liber Caotica's special edition(bound in a plastic cover with metal screws driven through it). It is, I believe, one of, if not the only copiy signed by the author.
