Hello. Ironhelm (aka "Rolf") here. New to the forums. ... Right, having dispensed with the unimportant details, let's get stuck in.
Need your assistance: are there any Mid-Atlantic players seeing this? and are there other players able to come to Mid-Atlantic in May
[edit: Month is TBD until conflicts with previously announced events can be avoided!] ?
Background: It's been a long time coming to get back to tabletop gaming and the poison of choice to spend those few hours a week in is of course E:A (alright, the Warmaster army is also getting a few glances - but really those are with disdain since 90% of the army is unpainted!) *cough* Therefore, am already drumming up interest in the Washington, D.C. area and resuscitating those old Ironfist League "IFL" (
http://www.ironfistleague.com) oldbeards to dust off our many cases of Epic minis and get back onto the tables. If there was one thing that I learned when running events for the IFL is that if you want more people to game with, run some events and get people out to play.
In consequence, I will be concurrently drumming up local interest and inviting all of you to come stomp around in our turf to ostensibly agitate the locals into pouring out to represent, or at least have a doggone good time and ostensibly throw a few dice around and maybe even follow a rule or two -- depends on who is chaperoning.
First order of business will be to give our events a name, and ... in keeping with what appears to be the US tradition of [zone] Epic Armageddon Tournament [number convention], that leaves us with the awkward yet likely appropriate:
MEAT -- or Mid-Atlantic Epic Armageddon Tournament(s)
(Well ...
clearly the naming convention will require appointments to a congressional sub-committee once we get up to speed, and for now, we'll roll with MEAT 2014.)
Why was I posting? Oh right. A tally of the events of 2013 and 2014 suggests
July, September, or November would be a good month to host a first tournament without conflicting with other events. Call it "
TBD" until further notice.
At the moment, these are the planning details:
LOCATION: Arlington, Virginia. (In addition to local stores that will be interested in hosting, I have three locations we can use: 2,000 sq ft, 4,000 sq. ft, and 20,000+ sq. ft so space isn't a concern -- E:A -sized terrain will be more of a concern than event space.)
WHEN: "
TBD". Prob akin to a Fri night mega event + Sat actual tournament + early Sun brunch and more gaming.
WHAT: Mayhem and fun. Trophy likely. Bigger trophy awarded to the soft points.
TOURNAMENT DETAILS: "TBD" (Note: your suggestions are elicited and will be suitably considered and mired in sub-committee to the sub-committees and favoritism will be placed on fun!)
COST: "TBD" but as usual, not much - and all left over $ after costs will go to a pre-designated charity.
A word of caution ... IFL oldbeards have a habit of 'returning the favor' -- so those of you safe in your garrison up in CT or PA, know that after coming here in May ... more than just a slight chance you will see a bunch of IFLers show up for your events! (Often to haplessly try to win back our trophy you will have made away with!)
... ooh, a 'traveling trophy' ... /off topic tangent
Anyways, that's the idea: make some noise, drum up the locals, warn them that non-locals are going to pour into town and have fun with our minis, and have a damned fine time at it all.
Thoughts?
