Hi Guys,

Thought i would share with a recent project that i have just started, its a scratch built imperial vessel,
Folks that have followed my threads in the past will know about my ongoing space wreck project ;D

The problem i found was just a flat gaming board was not the answer ! So i came up with a solution
to the problem, build a ship that incorparates the board ;)

The top section with house the board and a top cover section with all the crew towers and implacements etc will cover the board when not in use 8) and a nice display model at the same time.

Its far from finished but the pics will give you an idea of where im heading with this, wings, dorsel fin etc and loads of paneling still needed i have only done the nose, and front section at the moment.

The little red robot angel in the below picture will give you an idea of the scale ! monster !

The story goes .... Vessel lost in warp and returns to a system but with all crew missing !
The BA are dispaced to investigateas the ship shows no sign of damage but is not responding
to communications..... But little do they know that purple and blue creatures have infested
the ship during its time missing in the warp.................................

Regards epic

Hi!

Wow!

You have to have skill to work that in wood.

Awesome!

Cheers for the comments Primarch

Its going together fairly easilly really, the main problem was that i am going to use it as a gaming board i had to build the square structure for strengh, if it was just the case as diorama i would of just built the lot in plasti card.

Its pretty easy as most parts are straight, so small bits of wood strips are just glued on, the rest of the detail such as the eagle are carved with a craft knife and plasti card added where needed.

I still need to beef up the box section to hold the dorsal fin as this will take all the weight and act as the base. I have seen some really nice solar posters on ebay of star systems so rather than paint the stars i.e base board as people do in bfg, i will just stick the poster as the base board then it will look as if its floating in space.

Not sure what it will weight in at but its 5 ft 6 ins already and still have to add to this the rear engine thrust sections, thinking plastic plant pots at the moment and the front laser cannon, so will end up been well over 6 foot.

It's a corvette obviously. ;)

(actually a 6mm Lunar cruiser is 5 meters IIRC)

Cheers for the comments guys much appreciated.

Regarding scale, i love scale models which is why i built my imperator to scale, but even the smallest ship according to the fluff is 1 km long minimum, which would be about 4 meters long!

Im a stickler for detail but i just dont have the room :) Im going with it had a crash and was a cut and shut by the mechanicum to get it back on the road ;D

It will end up been about 2 meters long which is good enough for me.

Whoops! I should have indicated I was being facetious with my earlier post. Shame on you, Chip! I really like the ambitious endeavor displayed here. Has no one else tried something like this? If not, congrats on being the first! :)

That's a fine looking backgammon board you have there. ;)

Well spotted elsmore ! the other side is chess, it saved me a fair bit of work to use it, as it gave me the depth for the actual minis to go onto when complete, and a nice rectangle shape to work on.

Cheers for the comments guys, Caregadras , yes i will finish it!

Not much to post at teh moment pic wise as im using wood glue for the side panels as it saves me using screws all over the place and also makes it strong as hell.

May use dome headed panel when complete to look like rivets but will see.

Once the panels are on i can fit the dorsel and wings etc and hopefully get cracking on with the top panel where most of the detail will be.

Looked on the inter web and found some Cobra pics which i may style the wings on, they are destroyers, look near enough the same as the front end and are pretty small ;)

Cheers epic

Managed to get some panels and detailing on the ship done, the FW land raider Hawk is for scale.

The pic below shows ship on its side with wing and dorsel attached

Some panels and observatory windows/ the windows will be painted bright green

other shots, i have made the top board cover so it sits in nicely this will cover the board game underneath and will serve the purpose of housing the command tower and other details.

few other shots, its really hard to photograph due to size and also wood does not seem to photo well !

Thats all for now, the only problem i have to copy all this now onto the other side :-[
