Thanks for the comments guys.

I've touched up the bits of the first warhound I mentioned had been missed and he's now varnished and ready to go for the Oxford tourney in a few weeks :)

Which also means i need to re-base some of my obliterators from years ago and glue my chaos squat 'decimator' back together :D

Bit of a pointless update this, but i'm still glueing magnets to things.

Will probably do 4 more warhounds, probably a mix of GW, SG and FW, just need to settle on the combination.

fun with magnet options:

Hi!

This is what I plan to do with all mine. The modularity aspects of magnetized weapons is just too good to pass up. :)

Hi!

Given how many I have, I'd worry more about altering the planets electromagnetic field..... ;D

The main problem is they are a really distracting desk toy, very easy to waste a lot of time just swapping weapons about :{[]

how do you find the metal heads and weapons hold?
I use a dual magnet system (which means always checking that I am keeping the polarity right...pain but worth it) but so far just with plastic weapons which is fine...i am worried the metal ones will be to heavy.

Hi!

That's a great question. I have only done it on plastic weapons, not metal. I suspect its okay, but confirmation would be nice.

I dual magnet as well. Only polarity mess-up I've had is between my two different warlord waists, there the polarities are different – means i cant swap torso/leg between the two, but the models as set pieces are fine.

I have no problem with magnet strength, even with the chunky mk3 warlord volcano cannon, which seems secure with dual 3mm rare earth magnets. The mk1 corvus might be a step too far, but i've not tried. The dual 4.75mm magnets juuuust hold the metal mk3 together at the waist, not ideal … but as most people only magnetise weapons that's just a detail. Heads are fine, some of them are holding just with 2mm magnets.

basically, yes, dual magnets (3mm rare earth) are fine for metals, go for it :)

I have used 4mm wide x 1.5mm thick disc magnets for metal weapons. If anything they are too strong - if you're not careful with how you change the weapon the magnets can separate from the weapon rather than separate the magnets. On the other hand, 2mm x 1mm are not strong enough for much except maybe turrets on tanks and maybe plastics.
