Oh! I got it!

No, I use Sketchup... although Moment of Inspiration looks pretty useful, especially for organic shapes!

The concept of doing organic shapes blows my mind!

Mine, too! Although they are definitely beyond my skills, for the moment...

In other news, I'm getting really tired of Shapeways and their printability control; now they have started to cancel as "non printable" orders for models whose components have been printed successfully several times in the past...

If this has happened to you guys, know that I've sent a very angry e-mail to Shapeways, that should result in them asking you soon(-ish) if you want to reinstate the order...

I had the same with a whole bunch of my older models, it makes no sense! I am tempted to look for other parties for test-prints, 3dprintUK seem decent, it's just that the P&P costs kinda take away any advantage, unless I do it in serious bulk, which kinda defeats the purpose of a test print.

Yes, Armand - I just received notice that my order for your Curlew frigate was cancelled (frosted ultra detail)

Oh, and now the Hellstrife CL... I have ordered a bunch of your ships in the FUD material without any difficulties. I hope your angry e-mail does some good.

Yeah, I hope so too...

The silliest thing is that I have what is basically a perfectly printed Hellstrife right in front of me (differing only in the torpedo holes), while the Curlew is basically the prow of the lyrebird on a shortened evil torpedo frigate (both in front of me, too...)

It's the second time this month that they get a false negative in their tests; last time they went back and printed the model, it should happen now, too, hopefully!

Ok guys, I received an update from Shapeways, but I'm afraid it's not a pleasant one...

Basically, there is no guarantee that if a model was printed correctly once, it will be printed correctly again, so any ordered model at any time could be cancelled for "thickness issues" even though it passed the tests before...

I have asked Shapeways to elaborate and explain this, but if this really is the case then I'm afraid that I'll have to remove all models from sale, since I'd rather avoid for the customers the disappointment of ordering a model and then seeing it cancelled (not to mention that I'm kind of a perfectionist, and every time this happens this is quite a stress for me :-\ )....

I'll keep you guys updated as soon as I hear something new!

Let me know how the developments go! I MIGHT (I can't put enough emphasis on that!) have found a caster who would be interested in producing miniatures, so that could be a possible option if Shapeways doesn't work out. But ok, it's still too early to judge. :)

Hey everyone... More negative updates, I'm afraid...

With their latest e-mail, shapeways informed me that 90% or more of my models are running the risk of being refused printing (including, but not limited to, all models containing a gun battery...)

If nothing changes (and I certainly hope it does), I'll be forced to close up shop for good this weekend, because on one side I don't have the means or the time to start again from scratch, and on the other it wouldn't be fair to the customers selling a product whose successful delivery is bound by the lottery of the printability check as it is now (just for anecdotal evidence, of my 5 light cruisers that share the same hull, 4 have been printed with no problems, and the fifth has been blocked for hull thickness problems...)

I informed shapeways on this, and I still hope that they will come back to reason, but I'm starting to wonder how come that what was supposed to be a pleasant and relaxing hobby has become such a stressful situation... :-\

Hi everyone, I can't give any precise update at the moment, but it seems I'll be able to work out a solution with the Shapeways guys after all... Let's touch wood!

Hello my friends,

Thank you a lot for your support, it really means a lot right now :)

I've been in touch with the Shapeways guys, and I'm hoping at least to get them to acknowledge the printability of my base guns (those that are used on almost every one of my frigates, and several cruiser batteries).

If I can save these, and assert the difference between a wall and a raised detail, I should be able to achieve a meaningful damage control...

Updates to come!

I really hope I can solve this soon, I want to focus on completing some "Space egyptian" (name pending) frigates that I'm working on...
