On the main subject of the thread, I don't have a strong opinion on the use of wardens.

Since the availability of any and all existing GW epic Knight minis is going to become smaller and smaller over time people who want to play Knight based lists are going to need proxies and kitbashes, or even completely new 'meant as Knights but not GW IP' sculpts, which some of these French sculpts really are. I have only a bare few paladins acquired mostly by accident, but I do not intend to use GW models for my Knight army in the first place, due to the relative expense of attaining more and the fact that sculpting has come a long way since the SM/TL era.

I don't think the list should be tied exclusively to models that are literally a decade out of print, either in trying to match them exactly or be limited by what models are available in it. Rather, following the point that several people have made about abstraction in the list, I'm fine with lumping several variants of older models into a single unit entry (ala what happened to Orks) and/or making up entirely new units to fill tactical roles that GW did not ever release models for. An AA equipped Knight seems like a reasonable extrapolation for Epic Armageddon lists if you want an army that fields only Knights. Tapping the old Warden models to fill this role also seems fine, as would new sculpts that are more clearly AA-oriented.

Given that there'll be loads of new background for the Knights in a week or two - a full codex and the first of a series of Black Library novels - maybe in might be wise to wait a little bit and absorb the new information first? There could be good ideas to direct the list in there, rather than establishing it now and changing it afterwards.

I concur. I'd like to see a classic style Knight list and a new one that plays closer to the new imagining from GW. (the former should be focused on to completion as it's closer to done). Similar to Rasta's statements elsewhere, though inverse, I have no desire to touch an old style knight list whatsoever but would be interested in a new style. We've got that in Necron and Tyranid land already between new and classic style lists so why not here?
