I believe it was in one of the DVD special features for chronicles of riddick that he mentions asking Judi Dench to play and she declined.

Watching him out of character in that featurette was surprising. He really came across like a total geek, very different from how he acts.

Hi!

I always thought it was pretty cool he plays D&D. I wouldn't mind running a game for him, or participating in one he runs. :)

You cAn tell he's super into role playing if you watch that interview he did on a talks how when he's practically glowing about his darkelf ranger like a proud mom. Man I've tries to get a gaming group together so many times recently, and I would be dming and everyone says yes then no shows. Rping is dead!

When you are Vin Diesel ... you can play what ever you want ... This might be some interest for Diesel fans too - http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=333230

I'm almost sure that I saw Diesel in an interview were he talked about playing world of warcraft as well as D&D, though I cant find the video on youtube now.

But this thread has had me singing this, which will now be stuck in my head for days....

Though, oddly, I don't think I have ever seen any of his films....

You'd be surprised how many famous actors/actresses got deep into WoW. It let them hang out and be social without their fame getting in the way. Mostly these were people who didn't get into tabletop.

Well, I thought Pitch Black was ok, but I LOVED Chronicles of Riddick. I wish they continued that epic story than to return to what seems like Pitch Black all over again. If they made 50 movies like Chronicles I would love it. But all I know is, "I measure my life 14 seconds at a time" bwahahaha whatever My Mach 1 did 13.1 bitch.

That being said, I loved the old D&D set Basic and Expert sets from the early 80s, but never got into Advanced D&D and def dont care for the miniatures game they have, not have any idea what is the difference between 3, 3.5, and if there is even a 4th version out. Role Playing just really isnt for me, unless I am pretending to be a Warmaster overlooking a gaming table playing Epic. But its cool Vin likes that stuff, and even cooler that he shares with other people and gets them excited too.

Most of this stuff was total geekstuff 20 years ago. Now even chics like vampires and other fantasy BS. Granted it had to be modified from what it was to be more acceptable to audiences now, but nevertheless look at all of the fantasy-like films that have come out now that teenage girls wouldnt have ever watched years ago, like that Snow White and the Huntsman, Hunger Games, and that ridiculous Vampire/Werewolf films (Cant remember the names). So its more socially acceptable now than it used to. Heck even comic super heros are awesome now, whereas 20 years ago you were a big dork if you liked Spiderman and the Avengers. Now they are supercool. Especially Transformers. Man 20 years ago, you admitted you liked that you weren't getting laid. But now, chics will even go and see those movies too.

Cool or not, Tranformers films bring out a very rare kind of hate in me. I do not advise chicks watch those films with me... Their ears will bleed with the wretched noise from the film and will then bleed again when I spend hours sanctimoniously tearing the film to shreds as some way of catharsis to recover from the ocular and auricular pillage that these films commit on anyone who watches them.

But that's just, like, my personal opinion man.

Agree on the Transformers anger. I won't elaborate, I don't think it's necessary.

We are entering dangerous territory now.... As I am a massive Transformers fan. (Seriously, my collection runs into 100's including Botcon and other exclusives, MPs, etc)

As a rule, the movies are deplored by TF 'fans'. But, its become very cool to hate on the 'Bay-verse' generally. I have mixed feelings on the movies.
TF, tM - A bad movie, but an OK TF movie
RotF - A bad movie and a bad TF movie
DotM - I kind of liked this one.

AoE - Looking forward to the Summer release of this, as the same writing team of DotM (Kurtzman and Orci are just lazy writers and not worth the respect that they get, even with Star Trek, in my opinion).

I will stop now.... Or I will feel like an uber geek in a community of wargamers!

After the Cher debacle, I once again attract the ire of the great Cybershadow! ;)

It's almost like I know which buttons to press, but I assure you it is not the case! Fair play to anyone who enjoys any of the films, just because they aren't my cup of tea doesn't mean I object to others enjoying them!

But they are egregious crimes against all that is good and pure about celluloid. >:D

Ha. At no point did I say that the movies were any good! I freely admit that they are pretty poor, and in fact at least two of the three are really, really bad movies. I enjoyed the first one - mostly because it was the first one - and the third, which I thought was a better film than either of the previous two.

RotF is a movie that even I cannot watch when it comes on TV, and I say that as a huge fan! Its awful.

I will leave this here...

I dont mind the transformers movies, but I dont think they are great. Megatron isnt anywhere near the badass he was in the cartoon and comic. And lets be honest, the original cartoon was terrible. But so was GI Joe, He-man, Mask, and lots of other cartoons at the time. Since I grew up in South East Asia at that time, I had exposure to some comics but not the shows, and was a HUGE GI Joe fan (with what I could get). But when I came back to the US and saw both GI Joe and Transformers, I was embarrassed. No one here really read the comics, they just knew the cartoon. It was pointless trying to convince them that both comics were better than the show. Oh well. G1 was still awesome tho.

But I also grew up on Diaclone. I had Convoy and not Optimus. I also have tons of Inch men and powered suits, Waruder guys, etc. So when Transformers first came out I knew they were using robots from Diaclone and a whole host of robot series at the time as I had all the originals. And the funny thing was, I grew to resent my Diaclone toys cause they didnt have the Transformer stickers on them like my friends had.

God if I could go back and get them now. Diaclone ruled. Still amazing what came out of that toyline.

That being said,I think they botched the transformers plotlines. I havent kept up with Transformers for 20 years, but I knew the original story and the Ark crashing on earth and all that. That made far more sense to me than the individual transformers turning into anything they scanned. I hated that. Oh, and the cube thing that turns a cell phone into a little angry transformer. Whatever. Sentinel Prime, crap. The Fallen, even worse. Gee I wonder how much else is buried around the planet they can dig up. I guess we get the dinobots next. Which I am fine with I know everyone wants to see them. Just hope the story is similar to the comic's version as that would explain the reason for converting into a dinosaur.

But still, the biggest disappointment is Megatron. And I am sick of Bay's sliding camera shots. Just sit got damn still and quit zooming in on the transformations and bluring everything and ruining what some developer spent so much time creating, for him to only go home and shoot himself after he's seen what you did with all of his work.

But hey, we're on the 4th movie. Not many franchizes get that many films without a total reboot.
