Agreed! I was trying to maximise bang for buck with these choices - there's troops in the Bounty Hunters and Assault Platoon that could serve for two different units, but I agree that either of those suggestions would be perfect for Blaster troops also. :)

There's also the Plasmablast Progenitor Heavy infantry which is nice. :-\

The Robot idea was another I was thinking of. After all, these are the greatest minds from the Age of Technology, people well-invested in the failed experiment of A.I.

There are 2 ways that the Exiles would view Robots:

1) That A.I. was and is a project worth continuing along with their Servus programme.

Or

2) The whole reason they had to flee Terra was because of the failure of A.I. They had seen the damage it could cause and wanted no more part of it. For this reason they turned to biotechnology and have since being growing their Servus in place of A.I.

Which makes more sense?

Both are good reasons, however 2) sounds like a more interesting route to go down.

The biotechnology links in with the genetically engineered Thunder Warriors created by the Emperor in the 30th Millennium. These were the precursors to the Space Marines. Could it be that the Exiles (before becoming exiled) worked to create the Thunder Warriors for the Emperor...or could it be that they worked on modifying the DNA stocks of the Thunder Warriors after the last one died in the final battle of the Unification Wars, to create what has now become the Space Marines?? Possible food for thought?

I quite like the idea that they were involved with creating the Space Marines but I feel from a timeline point of view that the scientists would have been purged by this time if they'd hung around after the end of the Age of Technology. There's a 5,000 year gap between the end of the Age of Technology and the founding of the Thunder Warriors, probably too wide to make this workable.

Also, I don't know what the reaction of the purists would be to this idea; the wiki states that The Emperor created both the TWs and the SMS. Presumably he had help, but I'm sure that there may be one or two people who take that literally.

It might be amusing if you take this point of view that the Emperor - a God - created the Space Marines but mere mortal men came up with a better solution in the form of the Servus! ;)

That was a very nice idea though, sorry I couldn't be more positive about it. :-\

No worries mate, was just a random thought from the utter chaos that I have for a brain :) I should have done my homework before writing it. :spin

Until you mentioned it, I had no knowledge of the Thunder Warriors and had to go on a wiki search for facts! You're streets ahead of me in terms of 40k knowledge! ;)

Thanks to an unrelated thread, I think I've found our cavalry:

Hmm... We'll see! ;)

I'll review this thread sometime over the next few days and see where we are... Think we have made pretty good progress though! :)

These are what I'm planning on using for Exiles' Titans. They are marginally smaller than Warhounds but if there's one thing we've learned about technology it's that the most advanced cultures are the ones who have managed to miniaturise their tech. Hopefully followers of this thread will think that as well as fitting in with the background we have created, that they will also compliment the Plasmablast vehicles from a design point of view.

I'm liking it mate. Very good idea, especially like the idea of a smaller titan packed with a hefty punch to be able to match a larger one. I think to compensate for their smaller size they would be more swift and possibly would have a better shield technology....

Definitely these ones. They suit the Plasmablast range better, plus i like the idea of them similar to Knights, working in a pack to hunt and take down their pray. I could see the Exiles being more chivalrous and seeing war as more of an art than the meat grinder of the Imperium.

Just to confirm, do you mean DZC? Or Infinity?

Incidentally, I'm reviewing this thread and trying to bring together all progress on the Exiles. I may not manage to update this today as I have some more filming planned, but hopefully this will be updated not too far in the future!
