Hello everyone! I just jumped on the Microworld train. Ordered Orc and Wood Elf army bundles about 20 minutes ago, lol.

I'm anticipating using the Kings of War ruleset as well. But I was wondering if there was a cheap alternative to making bases for all the little guys. If I stick with the 40mm x 20mm base requirement for a Troop size, instead of ordering some bases from Litko or other company, could I make some inexpensive bases? Not cardboard, but a material that will hold up to glue, paint, flocking, etc. Thanks!

Unless you feel like cutting out your own plywood bases, I'd go with litko. I figured $7 and shipping was less of a hassle.

Pendraken sells nice, larger bases, too. Might be cheaper depending on your location.

Or if you live in the UK, I recommend these, they're nothing fancy but they're cheap as chips (or fries to those in the U.S.):

Actually, come to think of it, they're probably cheaper than chips. Unless you got a lunchtime special, you'd be hard pushed to get a bag of chips for £2.15.

Depends on the size you want. For a pack of 60x80, Pendraken is actually cheaper (6@1.10 GBP, VAT included). That is particularly the case if you are shipping to North America (take out the VAT and they are 20% cheaper) or if you want some of their 10mm fantasy for your big creatures.

I'd also look at renedra. I found out they sold 20mm by 40mm after I had bought the litko.

Cheap base's made from MDF board, i use these and recommend them.

http://www.sarissa-precision.co.uk/store/bases/

I have ordered from both suppliers very quick shipping no problems ever.

I will actually be posting a blog about my undead from microworld very soon.

Here's my beastkin TOEG i've completed on all 40mmX20mm the giant is two glued together. I'll be rebasing my characters on 25mm round mdf bases. You'll notice point values I actually wrote my own rules that i will be making available to the public soon, for free.

Good to read and welcome to the forums.

I, too, have jumped into Microworld and have some of their beastkin and wood elves. I feel that Kings of War is a better game at smaller scales, so you might be onto something there. As for me, I'm not sure which system I will use, and am developing my own simple (almost beer-and-pretzels...almost--more DBA/HoTT with a more for options in it); with my Warbands mounted onto round bases. Being as easily distracted as I am, my system probably will lay unfinished and unplayed until doomsday.

That is, unless someone can sell me on a system that already exists, that's only a slightly more complicated than DBA/HoTT.

splash - I think you should check out MAYHEM. They are mass battle rules with custom unit and army construction, a unique magic system, warmachines, and more. You would want your units based on square or rectangular bases though. ;)

If you're definitely going to do round bases, then HAVOC might interest you. However, it doesn't feature the robust unit and army creation capability found in MAYHEM.

Good luck with your project!

Thank you very much for the info. I think I have both download on my computer somewhere, I'll rummage about and see what I can find, then read through them.

Again, thanks.
