But you need to flip the armored sleeve on the lefties. To me the second from the right looks like he's using the armor correctly, while #1-3 (from the left) should be flipped.

Agree.

I'm not super keen on the curved handle as i'm not sure how it will look at scale, but otherwise awesome as always :)

Looking forward to seeing some vehicles...

Disagree. From the left 1-3 are right handed as they have their main hand closest to the hilt, so would benefit from the armour being on their right arm. 4 & 5 are lefties since they have their left hand close to the hilt, so in theory should have their left arm armoured.
If 4 made a strike from that stance he would be bringing his left foot forward and be presenting his left arm after the strike at which point he is at his most vulnerable.
If number 4 was planning on swinging single handedly from that stance then he is likely to die (that sort of thing only works in fiction ;) ). We are taught to always keep both hands on our swords as it gives you the best control and power and the best chance of continuing the attack or dropping into defence.

Matt

quick update - I applied the changes Mattman suggested with the arm armor, and made the cleavers more wicked looking...Thoughts?

Don't like the new cleavers. I much preferred the other ones that actually looked a bit like cleavers. These just look like random Hollywood "evil knives" enlarged to 2-handed sword size.

Yeah, I much prefer the previous cleavers.

Really like! Especially the two on the far right. The originals were boring and looked like silly bigified straight razors.

Yeah maybe they are a bit much - and maybe the originals were too plain... Check out the scale shots:

At this size, I say the originals do read better - but I'll leave it up to the popular consensus.

The new ones on the right would be fine without the serration - just huge machette things. The rest can stay the old style as far as I'm concerned.

I'd be very doubtful you'd be able to cast those little holes in the blades. They're what, .25mm across?

Edit: though matching divots on either side of the blade would probably work.

They don't go all the way through - just colored black for the pics.

I love the old cleavers and very much dislike the new ones.

While I don't think they're much of an improvement, I don't mind most of the new cleavers, but the sickle one looks stupid, and more importantly, it stands out as different to the others, the more you can do to avoid "every model with this weapon is holding it in this pose" recognition on the table should really be done

The plain look of the original one is exactly what is evocative of actual butcher cleavers, and their most brutal shape in the hands of the slender stygians is a major contributor to the model great atmosphere and evocative power IMO. Keep scimitars theme ideas for a duelist/wicked swordman concept.

Butchers feel great as butchers. Unnatural, daemonic empowered slender swordmen cleaving through armour, flesh and bones in one fell swoop or their enormous blades. They don't parry hits with fancy swordplay, they split their opponent in two from shoulder to hip in a single strike before they even start to move.

If they keep their cleavers, I will get some even if I have no plans for a stygian army. To my eyes they are one of your most inspired design yet - and that's saying something.
