Anybody downloaded the Roman Seas terrain for Hotz stuff? Is it worth the money?

Well I decided to bite the bullet and download them and frankly the answer is yes. For £30 you can get all the scenery files. This gives you the ability to build a large walled town, castle and port in a classic style. My main recommendation is the rural set at £2later historical periods for 30 odd building templates, its excellent value and provides lots of the smaller structures most of these things neglect. They make good Meditteranean/Late Classical structures the bigger sets are more questionable and the Fortifications possibly even more so but I think they are the best set of 6mm scenery for download I've seen of any period. I would recommend them for Classical and Fantasy use without qualms however later periods won't find them useful as most of these buildings ended up abandoned and falling into total disrepair after the fall of empire. Oddly enough they do get a thumbs up from me for Sci-Fi use. This is as a lot of settings draw on Rome and Byzantium for inspiration. Dune and 40k come immediately to mind. Also for some reason the multitudes of inner courtyards strike me as very 40k. I'll try and get some good photographs up at the weekend.

They have very nice pictures of the finished product on the website. www.romanseas.com. The files are sent via e-mail with pdf file so you can print all you want.

I left some links on your 6mm painting log for some more DL card stock buildings! I prob should have posted it here, but I was already posting in your log before I thought about it!

Image The two small buildings are from the Rural Village section the big one is from the Set 1. The 2 which look completely different are Dragonshire buildings from Fat Dragon Games rescaled with cursing. None of these buildings took more than 5 minutes to make.

Nice job. What weight of paper are you using?

Can't recall of hand I think its about 160g/sm might be the slightly heavier stuff about twice the thickness. Truth is I brought a ream of it a couple of years back (when the IG Leman Russ doubled in price) and have been using it ever since. For these I've been using cardstock direct for bigger buildings like the Sarna.net ones http://www.sarna.net/files/index.php/media/cardstock/ I just print on paper and then glue it on to cereal box card for strength. By the way that's the best link to cardstock futuristic buildings going. While Dropzone commanders are prettier these have the variety.

I suspect nowhere. They are done by a chap called Rick, one of our lot in Sheffield and I don't think he is on here. I believe there was a lot of scratch building from 40k kits, press moulding and other methods used in their construction.
I think he is the best painter I have seen, his armies have won several best painted awards in various competitions.
If I see him at the weekend I will ask if he has got any pictures anywhere.

Matt
