Brood Brother Joined: Thu Mar 06, 2003 10:01 am Posts: 7823 Location: Sydney, NSW	This has been playing on my mind all afternoon, getting me quite upset actually.  I'll try to not rant I am no censureship crusader as you know, but this what I may or may not say (at nobody's expence) is ridiculous.  You want to get technical, then define an "in joke".  How long after a comment may I reference it?.  Why cant I joke with my forum buddies?  Its stupid I welcome and embrace the newcomers to this forum and would love to get to know them and joke/chat with them too.  I want them to enjoy the comradeship here as much as me.   I have buried 3 friends and relatives in the past fortnight and it has given me some focus on what is important. I have also spent the last few years of life at the cost of time with my family, in liberating others and giving them freedom , so dont impinge upon mine when I have the time and bandwidth to express it. I'm sorry, but I needed to get that off my chest because as I say, it has been building up a rage in me all day.  I guess its because I like the people here and value the chats we have so much. I am leaving semi permanently very soon, but more sooner to that happeneing.  It has nothing to do with any of this topic. Argh! Can open... worms everywhere...! OK. Let me address a few of the issues here. My appologies that I cant answer every comment in detail. Firstly, I do want to put all of this into perspective. All I said was: Can we restrict the number of posts with one word in them, or which don't actually add anything to the discussion? I am not asking people to stop talking about Man O War, or 'real life', or even never to type the 'I' word on these boards again. I am just saying can we restrict one word posts which are posted because of the in-joke. If anyone agrees with a point and wants to voice that, go ahead. I just think that the number of posts which would be considered spam on other boards of this nature is quite high. I am not pointing at anyone in particular, and not even at the use of the word 'indeed', but more about the number of posts which dont actually say anything. It would be nice to keep the gaming areas with more "on-topic" conversation and less "in jokes."

This is it exactly. The general discussion area was created to encourage all sorts of talk, as this is where you actually get to 'know' the other members here.

The one guy who ultimately makes the final decisions around here is CS and he has always been reasonable and listened to everyone. Surely, he'll listen to you again?

I wish that I did make the decisions around here!  

The simple truth is that these boards, and any boards at all, would not exist without the members. If the entire population of these boards moved away and a whole new set of members joined, would they be the same boards? I dont think so.

I value the opinion of every member here, and if I am wrong about anything at any time, feel free to let me know. If I have an opinion which is not shared by the majority, then as far as these board go I am 'wrong'. In the same way, if a single member here has an opinion, I would be stupid (and failing in my duty to these boards) not to listen to it.

No-one is stating that you cant say or not say anything at all. I echo Maksims statement that he will never edit or delete a post containing the word 'indeed'. Neither will I. All I ask is that people exercise a little control and think if it is really needed. If it passes as 'banter' then great, go ahead and post.

We are talking about a virtual community discussing science fiction wargaming and pushing miniatures across a board. I am as passionate about the hobby as anyone, and there are things even more important than GW ( ), but the initial post here was a polite request for people to let them know my opinions on something. It was not an order to cease or be evicted.
