Are you going to be basing them or painting the bases black?
Oh, basing them properly for sure. I ran out of time getting them prepped and put together before leaving (stayed up all night doing it though didn't get as many done as I'd hoped) and didn't have a chance to walk down to the beach to get any fine sand, so I'll add it afterwards. Either way works. They'll be brownish, with 3-4 types of flock and grass. I'd like to do spore chimneys and other tyranid structure on some bases in the army, but will include those on later batches.

Crowded bases look good, as Nitpick said, especially as nids armies often seem to have fewer models per base due the scarcity/cost.
I'm a bit of a perfectionist and go for what looks good. I really wanted to get across the horde feel, hence mostly 7 to a base and small bases (20mm round). I'll be adding lots of smaller tyranids as decoration to fill up the spaces on the bases of larger tyranids too. It should look impressive clustered together as the army gets bigger.

Where did you get the 7 hole bases? Are they custom made or was it more fiddly than that?
They're 20mm round laser cut ply bases from Fenris Games in the UK but they don't come with holes and it allows me to position the models more freely, closer together and nearer the edge without holes. I take each guant and clip close to it's legs off either side then then clip off a small amount front and back so it's left on a rough rectangle. Doesn't have to be that precise. It's fairly quick to cut a matching hole into the ply, gradually trying and enlarging it till the particular guant fits. Green stuff could be used to fill any resulting big gaps, though I haven't needed to yet, and the base sand should cover any small gaps. Photo to illustrate:

I joined here almost exactly 4 years ago, and I'm pretty sure these are the first painted models I've seen from you.

And what a way to start! Some of the best nids I've seen. I don't think they need to be more pink, TBH.
I copied
this persons version of the Leviathan colour scheme fairly closely. I could leave the skin as is and had planned to, but after doing the carapace I think the skin lets the model down a bit and I think will look better adjusted a little in tone. I'll test paint lighter and pinker skin on a new model first before changing these though, just in case.
Two years was somewhat of an underestimate - I checked back and the last model I painted was around November 2009 so pretty much 4 years ago. That was my Forge Knight which is the model I'm most proud of (it's converted from and old Knight body and bits from 4-5 different FW kits):

This painting thread is mostly intended for new stuff but for those that haven't seen them I guess this would be a good time to re-post pictures of some other old models I painted.
Mossinian Hellhound from the Siege supplement:

Part of a small Raven Guard force, one of a few painted up for a showcase article on the old Fanatic site (I got the models free from Fanatic which was nice):
