Well, after trying to buy every table-top miniature game under the sun many years ago, I accumulated a pretty huge collection, and realizing I was never going to be able to play 90% of it, I eventually set about purging all but what I thought were my absolute favorites. Now my absolute favorites were either games I played the hell out of, or just ones I thought were awesome and hoped to one day get into.

I also prefer to keep games that have some kind of starter set, and *TRY* to keep only what I can fit in that box. This helps limit my collection and keeps it easier to store, although there have been a few exceptions to this rule (Like Epic).

* So after the great purge some years ago, here's what I kept *

Epic Space Marine/Titan Legions ~ I lost a lot of stuff I meant to keep, during a move I think :( which makes things tough as I am back into it. Rebuilding armies now to play with a friend and maybe family.

Man O' War ~ This is probably my single favorite game. I love Epic, but I really love Man O War. It is simply one of the most fun games I have ever played, and requires so few miniatures.

Battle of Stanrey and Battle of Kalnock - I am sure you have never heard of these. These two japanese games are based on the old anime Dougram, which I loved as a kid. I wont tell the effort I went through and what I paid to get these two mint, but I loved Dougram as a kid, and still do, so it was worth it to me. Essentially, FASA ripped these games off to make Battletech, and while the games are limited in scope, they are prized favorites of mine. Do I ever play them? I think twice in the last 10 years.

http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/8780 ... of-stanrey

http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1416 ... of-kalnock

Warhammer Quest ~ Fun game I can play with the family, and at one time I had both expansion sets but sold them, but have enough other extras to keep me occupied for a long time. There's a Warhammer Quest game out for the iphone which I have, and enjoyed it, but it doesnt have the magic the table top version has.

Vor the Maelstrom ~ Really great ruleset and a cool setting. Have decent sized armies for all the factions that were sold (really doesnt take much to make an army). Even though the quality of the minis are hit and miss, its Vor and I like them anyway. Even collected the novels which I normally don't do.

http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/4977 ... -maelstrom

Battleground Trinity ~ I LOVE THIS GAME. I havent been able to play it much but am happy to own it. Its skirmish game that packs a lot of great stuff in the starter set. Probably the best terrain ever to come out for a game at that time too. After I discovered it, I scoured the internet to pick up everything White Wolf released for it. Which wasnt much sadly as they killed support after 6 months. But its a jewel to me. Finding others that feel the same way? Near impossible. Based on some RPG I have never played. Also, a promotional poster with an explanation of the rules with a scenerio on the back was released and I thought that was really cool. The game also came with a mini RPG game for a skirmish in the Trinity universe. Very cool.

http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3760 ... ttleground

Epic 40k ~ I still have a lot of appreciation for this game although when it comes to playing, I would rather play SM2/TL. But there is just something about it I really like.

Warhammer 40k 2nd Edition ~ While I played Rogue Trader back in the day, I really wasnt crazy about it although I loved the universe. 2nd edition was the reboot I was waiting for and I played this system more than any other version of 40k. When I found a MIB box set on Ebay a few years ago I snagged it. Its kind of cartoony, but still something about it that hasnt been replaced in later editions. BTW, after 3rd I skipped 40k until Dark Vengeance came out...

Warhammer 40k 6th Edition ~ Very recent purchase as my collection goes, and I mostly love what GW has done with 40k. I went from not caring about 3rd, 4th, and 5th, to being blown away by 6th. And I really havent expanded much on what came in the Dark Vengeance Limited Version box set, I feel like I have all what I mostly need for now in just the starter set. I love the scenerios, and even bought the novella. Really smart move 'personalizing' the miniatures in the set, as opposed to the generic feel of the earlier editions. Still stunned a Land Raider sells for $70 now (when did that start happening???)

Necromunda ~ The old version. With Outlanders, and 4 gangs and an Arbite squad. Will prob never play it again, but this is one of those games where there is a whole universe in the box set and I just enjoy visiting it.

Void 1.1 ~ The miniatures are cheesy, the factions are silly, but its a pretty neat, fast paced game. I have the later box set and all of the army books and even the scenerio book, but just stuck to the early rulebook for my force lists, which I have armies for all the factions. And when I say armies, I mean like 15-20 miniatures.

http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/13742/void

Warlord - The first version. Everything I have fits in the starter set and thats probably why its still around. I never play it. But its small enough to where I can tuck it away and forget it.

http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/13647/warlord

Battletech 2nd Edition - This is really the first miniature game I ever played, and it sucks. But, its on my shelf for nostalagia.

BTW the game I have played the most (which isnt a miniature game but deserves mention) is: CATAN. I, like many others, love that game. When we sit to pick out a game to play, usually that is what is settled on.

* Now here are some highlights of what I let go of *

Adeptus Titanicus/Space Marine ~ Yeah I did it. And I am kicking myself for it. I loved this system. I played this version of Epic more than any other. But I honestly thought, and still believe, that if I were going to take an edition off the shelf to play, it would be SM2/TL for its simplicity, and while I love the grit and detail of this earlier version, no one I know now would, and games just took so long to play out. But I miss the collection I had. Give me a moment while I reflect again on my stupidity...

Warmaster ~ While I loved the scale, the minis, I was never huge on the system, and without a proper box set to keep everything organized, I unloaded it. Can't say I have ever though, Oh man I wish I still had that. I know it was cool, but not cool enough.

Battlefleet Gothic ~ Surprising yes I got rid of it, after spending lots of $$$ on it. But it seemed to jump the shark and never recovered. I have never felt like, Oh I wish I could play BFG right now.

Mordheim ~ I regret this, but like Necromunda, in order to really get a lot of out of it, you have to maintain a band overtime, and I didnt think I would ever do that again. I had most of the bands too, and really liked them. Then I picked up those Warhammer Witchhunter novels and immediately wished I still had the game. Just to paint the models and stuff.

Warhammer ~ I think I had 5th edition... the one that came with Empire and Orcs. I was really impressed then, but I don't think its aged well. Like 40k, GW has gone leaps and bounds with the new stuff. I havent played the newer editions, but Fantasy is Fantasy, and I am never going to get back into it.

Warmachine ~ Bought some stuff, never really got into it. No idea how popular it is today, but I still see it and that Hordes game still around.

Warzone ~ I loved the old box set when I got it, the one that came with like 80 WWI looking bauhuas and english soldiers. I loved daemons with guns, and had most of the armies. But a lot of it was just cheesy, and I could never accept the fact that all of these corporations were along national lines. Just so dumb. Or and throw in a cybernetic corp. Dumb. I sold it off for nowhere near what I paid. That was dumb too. Would never play it again, but it would be cool to have kept it.

I unloaded a lot of games. Too many to list. Some cool, like Pirates of the [b]Spanish Main and HeroClix, to ones not worth listing (like GROPOS, Starsiege: Rebellion). Its crazy when you get into collecting what you spend your money on because you think you have to have it.

So all that said and done, what are your favs, and ones you got rid of and why?

Warmachine and Hordes are huge. Though I don't play as much as I used to, it's right up there with GW's stuff at this moment.

I still have Warmaster (the rulebook and a handful of minis), Vor (with no miniatures), but the main one I keep around is Clan War (from AEG). Possibly the best type of that game ever made (or, anyway, it was an excellent alternative to Warhammer Fantasy at the time). Out of print, I still have hundreds of unpainted minis, all of the books and a small, quiet desire to play again. But if it's not Warmachine/Hordes or MERCS, it doesn't get played with my group of friends. But I can't get rid of it yet, too many fond memories.

I used to play the hell out of Warzone, and was tempted by their kickstarter for a new Warzone game...but everyone lost interest and I got rid of everything.

Space Marine-Epic types/Man O War/Warhammer and 40K--got rid of all of those (gave away and threw away) when I moved back in '97. Miss the Epic stuff (have been slowly rebuilding my collection over the last couple of years), but the rest is gone and good riddance.

Have to say my favorite table-top game of all time is Blood Bowl (in it's early 3rd edition--or was it 2nd edition?). Still have lots of pitches and playing aid, but no full teams of miniatures. Got a bit of interest to play, but not enough players.

Oh and Starship Troopers. Terrible set. Also the same company produced a Judge Dredd game which I didnt think was bad, but nowhere the quality of Necromunda. Forget who made them. I think Andy Chambers worked for them after he left GW.

I've been solely GW since I was about 10...... played rogue trader and wfb 3rd edition way back, bought 2nd edition 40k and played it a bit, at the time I was playing a lot of SM2/TL too, then gave it all away to a kid down the street when I went off to study at university, when I resurfaced a few years down the line, epic40k was out and I just did not get it at all....

Other than those I was straight WFB....

I got into GW through heroquest and space crusade, both great fun at the time but horribly flawed, don't miss them at all! I had battlemasters which helped me get some friends interested, not sure where that went, probably the kid down the street.... same story with tyranid attack which was a brilliantly fun game, I really miss that one and would love to get my hands on a copy again

I sold my copy of space hulk V3, its awesome but still in shrinkwrap 3 years after I bought it, if I want to play, I have friends who own it....I really regret selling off my copy of spacefleet and about 5lbs of ships for it.....

Dredd and Starship Troopers are by Mongoose Publishing.

Mongoose also makes Victory at Sea, which is on my list. An excellent game for WWII fleet engagements. Other miniature games I'll play whenever I get the chance, in no particular order, are EA, Warmaster, Warmaster Ancients, and X-Wing. Honorable mention to Necromunda, Monsterpocalypse, and BFG. Boardgames include Catan, Twilight Imperium, Mage Knight, Pandemic, and others - though I don't own most of them. I also have a decent collection of Dragon Dice, and recently (and to my eternal shame) Magic again. I promised myself I was done with that one, but I guess not... Sigh.

I like the BattleTech setting (at least what they've been doing w/ it post-clix). The rules I find annoying.

From GZG: Dirtside is one of my all-time favorites. Stargrunt and Full Thrust are good, too. I love 15mm sci fi.

GW: Warmaster is a long-time favorite of mine, right up there with Dirtside. Fantastic game, fantastic minis. I'm getting into Epic now (yeah, way too late, I know). BFG is an excellent game, and even the harder sci fi game systems could learn a lot from how it uses crew quality and leadership rather than hardware to shape a battle.

I'm a hoarder. I still have every single miniature I've bought thru 20+ years of collecting and painting, barring the few I've sold off or given away. And a very understanding girlfriend (o:

Warzone 1ed is definitely one of my all time bests. It's one of the best rules systems I've ever played; the actions system and alternating activations just ... works. Too bad too many of the miniatures were, frankly, shite, and the lists were so unbalanced that it put 40k to shame.

I really wish I could find the time and opponents to play some more Infinity. Great game, wonderful minuiatures, it is getting a little overwhelming though.

I've had many many great hours playing Warmacine, but lately, it's having the same problems as Infinity - there's just too much of it. Also, powercreep seems to be finally settling in.

Malifaux is fun, but when people started realizing just How broken 1ed was, they lost all interrest in a hurry. Haven't really been back. Those miniatures are a constant salivation point though =P

The most prolific game around these parts is Blood Bowl, and I've painted up 20+ teams for various people; still have my glow-in-the-dark pink/green ShadowForge ork team and my elves; my New England Patriots human team will probably never see completion though, as I've all but lost interrest in nuffle.

Oh and Epic ofc (o:

Might be a bit off topic, but can you explain how you're seeing this? I'm not disagreeing, I've been seeing it for a while now, since Mk II took off. But lately it's been fairly obvious.

To avoid a derailment, you can PM if you wish.

Thanks.

I've never played Inifinity but all I hear are good things. To be honest, I have enough sci-fi skirmish games...

I've seen Malifaux and think it looks really cool, but havent played it. Too much on my plate really.

Oh, I forgot - Had Hybrid and the expansion Nemesis... Really a nice looking game, and even picked up the Confrontation rules and extra minis compatable with Hybrid, but never got around to playing it so I got rid of it. It was hard to just read all the little text on the cards for me. I dont know if it was the result of the translation from French to English, but even the explaination of the rules made me think something was left out. Really cool though, but I already had something like it called Warhammer Quest.

http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/8515/hybrid

http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1066 ... -1-nemesis

Keep in mind the games I realized I have to keep are games I can teach others to play quickly. I dont go to gaming stores to play with randoms or conventions.

Don't apologize I am open to free-flowing convos. Curious about it too actually.

Oh, even though I dont play it (I dont even have the rules even though I've thought about picking them up) I collect the minis for FASA's old Star Trek Combat Simulator. I LOVE Star Trek TOS. Really dont care much for anything released after... Star Trek II really. I love those ship designs. Especially the Klingon ones.

They have their own system set in an alternate Star Trek universe. Yeah, I said alternate universe...way before Abrams decided to unveil his train wreck.

The FASA game disappeared when that company went belly-up. The two systems are very, very different. I really enjoyed the old FASA game, but it wasn't perfect; and still have a few of the minis to use in other spaceship games but they are mostly resin copies and not the original, lead models. I do still have the old FASA rules around here somewhere.

I tried Star Fleet Battles once....it was awful (that was back in 94 or 95). I haven't looked back since.
