Ok, I've been busy but I've still be mulling things over.

vs. 4+ reinforced armor, AV, 5 russes firing.
Vanquisher: 1 kill
Executioner: 1 kill

vs. 5+ AV, 5 russes firing.
Vanquisher: 4 kills
Executioner: 3 kills

vs. 4+ INF, 5 russes firing.
Vanquisher: 2 kills
Executioner: 2 kills

vs. 6+ INF, 5 russes firing.
Vanquisher: 3 kills
Executioner: 2 kills


I've rounded the numbers to whole numbers that should be the number of kills the maniple is capable of on average. The vanquisher pulls slightly ahead in range and shooting against lighter targets but not by much in a pristine formation. If we assume one BM on each formation, both formations perform pretty equally if my math is right.

so where does that leave us? I feel that both the Executioner and Vanquisher perform similarly enough that we can price the formation the same for either one. I'm also thinking that we can price the formation at 400 points and change the Valdor formation to 475 points.

Hopefully that will change the dynamic enough that the russ maniple will be an attractive alternative to the Valdor and that either russ option is viable so the option used is really down to what the player has and what they are trying to represent.

Well, you can't get half a kill and most dice don't let you roll anything other than whole numbers. in any event, the partial was never greater than .5 and those that were greater I rounded up. If I'm wrong, we can adjust later since the first test version will be something like list version .5

What's more necessary at this point is to finalize the last couple of items on our discussions before posting a test list. The biggest of those is the lander. Does anyone have objections to the version I posted at the start of this thread? It's different than the devourer dropship we'd been looking at.

Ok, it's been a couple of days on this and there isn't a lot of discussion on the list at this point. We still have one point on the naming of the Superheavy detachments that was brought up at the start of the thread, but that shouldn't impact the list itself.

Unless I hear a lot of dissent, I'll put a sticky with the list for playtesting next week. It won't go in the next version of the PDF, but it'll get us moving into playtests to start ironing out details.
