I think Deacon has been very clear this is a hobby for him and he doesn't want to make it a job?

I would suggest Deacon just carryies on as is and the SCP distribution will help. I don't see a kickstarter as being a good idea. Be patient all, good things will come in time!

Argh. There went an hour of my life...

OT: Looking forward to be able to place orders via (the other) SCP and dodge the customs bullet.

Will be interesting to see the prices. I don't think there is any import duty either way, and you will still have to pay VAT (20% in the UK) along with SCP's margin of course. It's the &*%@ Royal Mail "processing charge" that ends up costing a large chunk.

Indeed, it's the same thing in Sweden. In this day of information abundance and web based solutions one must wonder why it's not possible to declare imports online and lower or do away with handling fees altogether? I don't mind paying taxes at all, it's the ridiculous charges in no proportion to the effort spent by the postal service that are getting to me. Sorry, I'll get off my soap box and stay on topic in the future.

I have made two orders from Deacon and noth camw home without taxes etc. Good luck with those. Here in Finland we can pay toll and taxes online and thats nice. Also theres no toll fees from toys.

It is possible, there is a scheme for it. I've seen some items on eBay do it, but don't know what is involved. It might be done via eBay itself, for example.

The post companies make a killing on those 'handling fees'. And since the postal services have virtual monopoly on imports, they can charge whatever they bloody well please.
They have absolutely no interest in making an online system that'd allow a customer to avoid paying up.

I think the only thing that will change that is lawmaking. And that's not likely to happen anytime soon.

It's coming, I'll be kind of quiet for a little while though. I'm at that "not so fun" part of the process where I'm digitally cleaning up models for print, figuring out a few things business wise, etc.
