It looks good. One could make good scenery or objective?

Quote:
When the situation calls for a prolonged deployment, Space Marines can rapidly construct modular fortified structures, known as Castellum Strongholds, to use as forward operating bases on a planet’s surface. Designed by Blake Spence, the Realm of Battle Space Marine Castellum Stronghold is a 24" x 24" (609 mm x 609 mm) tile which can fit the Citadel Realm of Battle board. The model features areas that can accommodate Tarantula Sentry turrets, and its design allows several boards to be put together, expanding the size of the base.

When looking at that I suddenly want to play Halo multiplayer :)
I expect we're going to see some of this related to the drop site massacre I expect. In the HH books the Iron Warriors were said to be erecting drop fortifications when the trap sprung. This is related I expect.

edit: wow what a crap paint job on that too. Tons of overspray and the less we talk about those hazard stripes, the better. A rare miss for FW painters. (I could expect that on GW store)

I think it's mostly a decent paint job myself. It does seem likely it's an Iron Warriors paintscheme as they go in for a lot of hazard stripes too, such as on the Fire Raptor. It's the flat blue windows for me that stand out as shoddily done.

I think it's a bit too bland and ungothic though. Mainstream GW get too carried away with the 'covered in skulls!' aesthetic but this could do with a bit more grimdark and SM specific detail

I wonder if a Thunderhawk could land in two of them next to each other.

I'd like to model a SM drop fortress one day and have a scenario where it gets attacked from all sides by larger numbers.

Reminds me of the modular bases in starship troopers

With a little work, it could be used for 6mm ... I've done it before ... making a larger scale into 6 ... Adjusting the doors & windows sizes, steps, etc. and the like ...

I don't like it. Why are there two doors on such a minute design? Why are there weaponry outside of the protective structure - at ground level? Why is there no protective parapet for part of the wall? The whole design feels Action Man. Batteries not included.

Have to agree with Nitpick... That base doesnt make sense.. But it's good source of inspiration and I will make my own base !

I like hazard stripes more than is probably healthy but if you can't be arsed to even tape the mask in the same direction as the rest of the stripes and tightly so avoid over spray it's probably not worth trying to use that to sell a very expensive bit of kit.

Phil Stutcinskas and Mark Bedford are fantastic painters on staff (I assume they're still there but the whole Cult of Personality for Painters aspect has been removed in the hobby). This just looks like a rush job.

As to the aesthetics this actually is part of the Heresy range I expect. They play down the whole grimdark a bit there a bit to differentiate the two lines I think.

Look again Jimmy - the top section of the wall slopes inwards, so it's understandable the stipes look to be on a different angle there.

I guess it is probably designed more with the Heresy in mind (and they want it to be usable by the traitors too), but I'm sure it will be usable in 40k equally too.

It will look more overtly marine-like painted up in specific chapter colours I guess.

Ahhh good eye and so it does. Poor photography then :)
(as in choice of angle to remove visual WTFs which is super important when making a catalog)

I still want to play halo on that thing :D

Looks seriously naff IMO and it's way too small to be of any real use.

I bet another board is in the works for this.

It looks better when multiple are used together - see here (photo too large to display on the forum).

I suppose it is a matter of subjective viewpoints. In my view, more of them just multiply the many inherent weirdnesses of the design. I think it looks rushed.

Looks to me like they threw a quick display board together for GD then thought they'd recoup the cost by selling it to mugs with too much money :)
