Make sure you can model the pod open too or alternatively just do an open one and not both with a closed one (I'd imagine the majority of people would want them open).

The pod would open as soon as it lands and have no reason to close again so it'd look wrong for them to be closed up on the battlefield.

Looks good.
I always think drop pods should be 5 sided. It would more easily allow 2 men/women out of each door from a ten man squad.
Definitely want a closed option as well as open myself.

The Assault Craft for the sisterhood looks great, keep it at the size it is too as it looks big enough to me. Also remember the last time a few players asked for vehicles to be made bigger, they looked silly and out of scale when compared other stuff.

Agreed on five sides, though really that might pose an IP problem. Also agree on being able to open it, especially if you can make a version with weapons platforms or a version with supply canisters.

I don't think it needs to be bigger. The current size is perfect. Honestly, I don't think it needs many changes at all. If you're shopping for changes... perhaps some kind of aerobrake on the top to keep it stable (ie pointing right-side up)? A fuel tank in that dead zone on top (you have rockets but no propellant!) Cluster bomb racks on the bottom. Maybe a sleeping cell with bed and disco ball for the Policy Information/Mission Planner who accompanies Sisterhood units. I'm really reaching here.

It's a great design.

I would have thought that the propellant tank would be jettisoned during the atmospheric descent, that's why we don't see it on the final model. Anyway, the propeller would be on the underside of the craft (to slow it down for reentry) unless the sisters are plunging head down.

In the end, I'm fine with the design (looking great !). The possibility to model the pod in "open" position as well would be great, but I don't know how costly it would end up with doors as separate casts...

Looks good. Five sides would be even better. Do not increase the size, looks perfect the way it is. It doesn't require that much fuel at all to fire the boosters on the sides at intervals to gradually slow the decent (assuming that the rocket fuel used in that future is more efficient than that fuel used during these times--a safe and good assumption). And, a drag shoot popping out of the top will make up for a lot of fuel that doesn't have to be carried, or even an exterior tank that needs to be jettisoned.

Drag shoots will slow the craft down too soon making it vulnerable to AA. I agree that not much propellant is needed. Who knows what efficiency engines will have in the future.

Russian Airborne Forces drop smaller AFVs (BMDs ASUs, etc.) using a chute with a rocket charge that goes off slowing the AFV's desent just before landing ... just FYI ... 8) So a drop pod could possibly use a similar system using short burn landing thrusters ... Even without a chute or deploying a chute closer to the ground, then firing landing thrusters ...

Hey guys - thanks for the suggestions - detailing continues:

Image

Few things to note - There's no way it's going to feature 5 "wings". For one thing, there would be a serious potential IP issue, but it also doesn't make any sense imo - there would be no direct counter force on the other side of the craft if jets were unevenly spaced around the pod to help stabilize the thing as it screamed down to the ground.

The overall size I can play with - but everyone does currently fit - and the smaller the better for prices...

I hope to offer both closed and open options - I just have to figure out how I'm going to slice the thing up for casting. In any event, the doors wont be separate, rather there will be two "bottoms" - one with open doors, and one with closed.

Here's a bonus shot of the pod landing, viewed from below:

Image

As you can see, the stabilizer jets "flower' out, helping to create drag like an airplane wing, while the jets on the ends level it out. The engine on top actually fires downward, acting as a drag chute without the drag chute. I want to make it clear how this thing might be able to slow down enough to safely deliver it's cargo, rather than slamming into the ground, turning its occupants into pink jelly.

I may also provide an "in-flight" option like this if there is a demand.

You're describing a parachute drop, not a small drag chute used to help slow the decent while the rockets fire at certain times.

Nice to see you have it all worked out. The size is ok by me, as you say bigger is more expensive. How about an additional breaking thruster underneath.
