It's about time I did more than just lurk here and haunt the trades section, I figure.

So, last day of work was Friday, and grad school starts in two weeks. I have a big gaming session coming up this weekend (E:A, what else?), and I'm in a pretty good place with my prep work for school. Since I actually have a little bit of time, and the weather's beautiful (or will be, other than tomorrow), let's see if I can show up to this meet-up with something more to show than simply my base-coated minis like last time...

My goal is to finish painting the following for Saturday:

1x Knight Baron
3x Paladins
3x Wardens

My stretch goals, if I make it that far, would be:
A - Assemble and paint a Warhound
B - paint up my 3 Crusaders

At least this way, 1/3 of my Knightworld force will actually have some color, and I won't be a total scrub.

Here's where I'm starting from; over the past couple weeks, I've been able to get them this far, around a few 60-hr work weeks and helping my brother move:

Left shins are staying white for now, until I can figure out what my pattern will be for the Knights' Household heraldry (probably quartering it and... well, more on that later when I have something to show.), and the right shin will get a differentiating badge for each formation.

So yes, I'm That Guy who brings a 28mm army to 6mm wargaming. Or at least, I am for now, until I can finally get my hands on the CSMs I need to work on an Iron Warriors force.

Good looking start!
They really are wonderful Knights (having finally seen your up close whilst I was there).
Hurry up and paint them so you can get on with an Iron Warriors army :D

Thanks for the encouragement guys : )
I'd managed to collect and hold onto a bunch of mixed metal and plastic knights from, well, quite a few years back, I just never got around to doing anything with them. The chevaliers rounded out my collection nicely, especially the Warden proxies (dear god, try to hunt down a Warden on e-bay, let alone for anything less than an arm and a leg...). I have some other alternative sculpts on their way too, mostly because the stock GW lancers don't really like being mounted on thin wooden bases very much (something about ridiculously top-heavy miniatures and tiny points of contact makes for a very frustrated modeler).

I'm a messy painter. That, and I've been breaking in some new brushes that, quite frankly, probably weren't worth the money I spent on them. Ah well. If nothing else, I have all of my base colors blocked out now. Next step: touch-ups on the yellow and purple, then shading, washing, and highlighting. There's actually a pretty good chance I'll have these ready for Saturday. Oh wait, then I have to paint on the heraldry and figure out what I want to do for the Baron's banner... maybe not...

So why purple and yellow with silver trim (ok, it's more of an orangey yellow, but I'll be bringing that up to a brighter shade)? Well, pretty most of what I've painted up to now has been power armor (so, solid blues, greens, reds, and greys), or BFG ships, and my BFG ships are largely in a sandy tan color. I really haven't used purple for anything yet, so a mid-range purple with bright yellow contrasting trim seemed like a good idea, plus it'll stand out against standard green/brown tables.

If I can find some time for it tomorrow, I'll also see about building a base or two for my warhounds. My plan is (a) Legio Metalica, and (b) urban terrain for those, so I'm aiming for something a little more in the way of a diorama (titan stepping through ruined warehouse back onto a city street, you get the idea. Let's see if I can execute it). I'm working with a set of proxies I got my hands on, so I have a pretty good range of poseability to work with on these.

The Iron Warriors are definitely next after I get the Knights painted up. If/when I get tired of painting purple paladins I might even take a "break" to IW-up my basilisk company, epic 40k-era vindicators, and decimator proxies while I wait for my infantry to arrive.

Well, I set out to finish them before the weekend, and I've (mostly) succeeded. My freehanding is horrible and needs some fixing, particularly in the Knight Household crests on the left shins, and I've held off on adding Brotherhood badges on the right shins for now until I can settle on a set of designs I like and can reproduce, but here's the first seven Knights of House Tourrash, the Knights of Forge World Cydonika.

Image

I'm using these as Paladins, and until I can get the rest of the Paladins painted, they're serving as Seneschals for base-coated GW plastic Paladins.

Image

I'm using these three gentlemen as Wardens, and they're the first full unit of Knights I have painted. Since the 1.3 list distinguishes between AA guns and barrage weapons on Wardens I opted for the AA gun option since that's what I'll be using them as most, but I'll be installing the missile pods on the next batch of three since I think I like how those look better anyhow (they can be AA missile racks).

Image

Finally, the Baron. The sculpt really shows its age, next to a "modern" (read: 3rd Edition) plastic Space Marine (I realize I didn't include that photo, but I figure most people probably have one lying around somewhere to compare to). The skulls are significantly more stylized, and I'm just going to pretend those two faces over the front thigh pistons are skulls too. I tried to get an electrical glowing effect on the Baron Lance. First time attempting that kind of thing, will probably tweak it more once I get a better handle on painting glow effects.

While I decided to paint the Knights in purple and yellow with silver trim, I wanted some sort of visual reference to the Mechanicum on them somewhere, so in creating the House's heraldry, I opted for a bisected field of argent and sable, with three gules orbs against the argent, representing Mars, Metalica, and the colony of Metalica House Tourrash is assigned to, the Forge World of Cydonika (thus their heraldry records their history of service to the Martian Mechanicum).
