For a dropship, take a look at Khurasan's Doe-- a mixture of the P38 with the Hind gunship. Not to steal their IP, of course, just as an example of how you can merge concepts and get an extremely cool thrust-vectored design. Another inspiration: the Terminator Salvation Hunter-killer VTOL. I already use that (lightly converted) in my 15mm force. BattleTech recently released the Tombo VTOL-- very cool and weird design, though cargo capacity is limited. I googled around and found Hawk Wargames, their UCM Condor Medium Dropship, which is pretty sweet.

Thrust vectoring is the way to go, IMO. Both from an in-game and from a looks perspective. No doubt there are tons of dropships that require prepared ground bases; those will be the backbone of a space navy, but won't be seen on the tabletop very often. Instead, you'll want VTOL-capable craft that can drop into a firefight and disgorge a load of troops.

Right now, there seem to be two major niches: the platoon lander and the company lander. There's no shortage of platoon landers, but company-scale landers (which can drop a half-dozen tanks or IFVs, or cargo containers) are few and far between. The only ones I can think of off hand are the resin BattleTech dropships and GW's Space Marine Lander, which is truly awful IMO. I suppose you could add the Tau Manta, which does rock. Come up with something cool looking for your line, and you'll be the only game in town for humans.

Finished my wobot, perhaps. Don't know if I'm going to complex-up his head or not.

He's 31mm to the eyes, so could be used in 6mm I suspect.
