Also got a spare Tactical Missile, so it all evens out. :) I'll be getting more regardless, and variety is the spice of life (or is that cinnamon?). This customer service is why I come back though!

I wandered by Scale Creep's new shop in Oak Park yesterday, and ended up getting more IJN for Victory at Sea. Nagatos, Kongos, Akagi and Kaga, Takaos (which I didn't need...) and this:

That's right, I bought a Habbakuk. Still not sure how to paint it, and it'll almost certainly never see play (1,200 damage, 25 flights of aircraft, 20 dice of Secondaries, and 40 dice of AAA? Could I stick my hand in a meat grinder instead?) but for $8.50 it was totally worth it.

After some distraction in the form of Dropzone Commander, I finished off the second unit of archers for WMA today. That leaves two Auxilia units to go to reach 1k. No pics, I figure I'll do the final three all together. Just wanted to let people know the Romans are not forgotten...

Oh good, it's only been nine months since I posted here.

I've recently gotten some of deacon's OTC and am looking for paint suggestions. I'm thinking white with red markings and blue-grey weapons. However white is a color I've not painted before, and I'm slightly concerned about the fact it will not take well to the techniques I've been using, namely base-drybrush-wash. I get the whole work up from grey thing, but would like some more specific tips on such things as should I even attempt to blend the white, what are the best methods for blacklining at this sale should I go that route, etc. Specific color pallets are helpful as well. Thanks all.

Do you want warm white or cold white?

Warm go with bone base, brown wash, high light bone edge white.

Cold start with light grey (astronomicon gray for instance) highlight with 50/50 white, edge white

Drink and pint and rinse repeat. :)

I have a buddy that swears by white base with Vallejo grey wash and white edge highlights. I am not brave enough to try it yet however :)

Probably cold white. Both of those sound useful. I thought about a grey wash, but haven't gotten my hands on one yet. I'd be concerned it would look too dirty.

Yeah same here. I think he thins it but I've not sat down and watched him paint. Might be worth a test run

Yeah, I was thinking cool white, red, and blue grey (Shadow greyish) weapons. What about a worn metal for the weaps? A dark copper like tin bitz might work.

You know Army Painter Dark Tone would probably look ace with those colors now that I think of it and be super fast to get the army painted. Basecoat, Varnish, extreme edge in appropriate color and Bob's Your Uncle.

No, but he's my grandfather.

I need to do some test models, but please continue with any suggestions. They've proven very helpful in directing my inattention.

Trials commence. The warm white does nothing for me.

Thoughts? Aside from "take better pictures" that is.

Mate,

I like the white one second in. Although it needs something other than the red to contrast and break up the model. Maybe some detailed ink work in the recesses and then use some sort of trim in places, feet, upper leg section and arm.

Cheers
Aaron
