Squats!

The red headed step child of GW. Was there ever a more original concept than a bunch of bad ass dwarves on motorcycles and trikes? If there were I can remember any of them.

Overall it is the "smallest" army. But that has less to do with my powers of acquisition than GW never really expanding this force in any meaningful way. But we'll touch on that latter.

In the old days companies were called "brotherhoods" and they had a mix of units types (tacticals, heavy weapons and assault).



The command structure had the mighty guild-master in bronze exo-armor. They were accompanied by their personal hearth-guard.



Everyone mostly remembers the squats for their liberal use of big vehicles like the leviathan.

Well to delving into what I have been mentioning throughout this segment. Since by the time epic sepace marine second edition was about and was reaching its zenith, the squats were already gone from the 40k line. Due to this, the squat epic line was sort of "orphaned" in this sense and thus whole swathes of unit types never were made.

Thus squats don't really have their own APC's or armored vehicles and such. I never liked using IG equipment for them. Thus the few tunnelers, rhinos and such.

Luckily more modern times has given us many alternatives so the squat army when done will be very proxy heavy (probably on the tau will be more so).

For example this is what a squat tunneler should look like.

I'll be using loads of Exodus Wars minis as proxies since they got the right "feel" for squats.

That leaves vehicles. Long ago there was this line of figs...

The figs are from the MAATAC line. I like them for squats because they were boxy looking, big and had lots of "treads".

These were meant for use as the ironshield APC



These were for the Hellfury APC (left) and the Retributor tank (right).
