Thank you very much.

Does anyone know the origination of the term "Milk Float" as it pertains to the Mark II Warlords?
I've read it a lot and it puzzles me, but perhaps it's British in derivation and doesn't have a colonial reference point.

AFAIK - it was first refered to as "The milk float" by GW (!!) when it was put up for direct order from mail order soon after E40k was released (model was originally released for Titan Legions as the Adetus Titanicus warlord in plastic had run out.) Definitely in Firepower 1 magazine - might have also been in White Dwarf. The nickname gives an indication of GW's own faith in the model! :D

If this is a lost in translation thing and you mean "what is a milk float?" In the UK it refers to a kinda flat bed, electric powered golf buggy/small van used to deliver milk - not a milk shake with ice cream as i believe it is in the US (?) Check this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPDHX-aI8mw - They are the source of constant jokes referring to speed (lack of) and general flimsiness despite the fact they are not much seen any more.

I think it was the boxyness and which earned the float comparison with the warlord mkII :)

Thanks Blip, that explains the term nicely.
I got my first one when they were originally released for Titan Legions, but i didn't like it very much at that point.
After assembling and then painting this one I'm a convert and have grown quite fond of them.

Good news everyone, I've painted some Ultramarines:

I wanted to have plenty of options so I went ahead and started with 4 Tactical detachments.
I was originally going to go with detachments from 4 different companies, but that doesn't seem to be the way that Marneus would field them so I went with the 2nd and 3rd companies.
2 detachments from each company actually comprises all of the tactical marines from each of the companies, so 2 units of Assault marines and 2 units of Devastators from each company will fill them out and completely represent the combat personnel of them both!

I wanted to see what I could manage so I went ahead and tried for Chapter markings as no Ultramarine worth his copy of the codex would be seen without

I was then faced with the same problem I've got with my Iron Warriors, mainly how to distinguish between the detachments when they get close together on the table.
If I had gone for 4 different companies I could have used the shoulder pad trims, but instead I elected to try for different variations of the Tactical Squad markings to distinguish between the 2 detachments from each company.

Here are a couple of closer shots showing details

Next up are 2 Terminator detachments, and then some dreads for the 3rd company who will be designed for Garrisoning objectives.

Looking good! Glad you did the shoulder pad markings. Gabus and I shamed you into doing it? ;)
