Just to let you guys know that these boards will be unavailable for about 45 minutes on Wednesday 11th Feb at 2pm (UK time). I want to sort out a few things and the usual backups.
Still, this is a good sign. I used to just wait until there was no-one logged in. Now we have so many members that this actually happens really rarely! And, I have noticed an serious increase in new members (hi to you all) since the EpiCentre link in the rule book.

Yep, I have noticed a rise in the number of hits, it is beginning to slow down now but we are still above our previous number of hits per day  .
Incoming! is a good demonstration, Issue #15 got over a thousand hits on the month it was released.

actually I was doing a quick check on my stats and interesting was the search terms, number one was space marines which if you put into Google my website comes up number 3 (and it's the Epic Space Marines at that). GW is number 5!

there are certain things you can do which really enhance the position
for example if your keyword is epic40k
your file name should be epic40k.html
your page title should be My page on epic40k (and not just plain old epic40k either)
and on the page itself mention epic40k about five times!
The other thing is to link to it from another page which is already on Google.
Though the main constraint is ensure you have good content.
What really makes me chuffed (and wary at the same time) is how often my images appear in Google's image search ?whenever you put in any GW keyword, though you don't always get the right image as Google Image search on Imperial Rhino shows!!!

Woo hoo. On Google Image search I get top four on both the terms Epic Armageddon and Battlefleet Gothic!

I find that as time goes by the results searches give get less and less relevant.
Is that other people's take?
Which search engine do you prefer?

I use Google a lot, because it favours sites which have links to them, meaning that they are generally the more popular and long-running sites. However, saying that, I also use MetaCrawler a lot as it searches a number of search sites.
I have less confidence in a search ranking as an indication of a 'good' site these days, as I find that word of mouth goes a long way for advertising a site, especially in our particular domain.

Just to you know that the down time is over. I have changed the name of the default skin (which was a nightmare to do!). Let me know if there are any problems.

it really depends on what I am actually looking for
usually it's Google
and if it's not there I ungoogleit!!!
I use Google to find specific sites, recently I needed to download a Socket WLAN driver, I used google to find the right site which was www.socketcom.com (which is less than intuitive).
I use Google Groups to find answers to technical questions, a recent example of this was when I upgraded a PC from XP Home to XP Pro and it "forgot" it had USB 2 ports!_________________ Jimbo

Thanks, google is pretty good.
I find standard search engines are pretty lousy for searching for game related stuff. Too many unrelated links show up.
