With all the current SG ruckus i've been looking at army lists and minis for my less completed forces, one of which is orks.

Can anyone let me know if the ork biker and boar boy that SG sell as metals are identical to the old plastics?
(I've only got the plastics and never seen anyone use the metals :P )
Did they just take the plastic and stick it in a spin caster, or were the bases or any other parts changed?
(pics on GW site don't look like they have the sound rounded off rectangular base on each figure like the plastics?)

IIRC they're just the plastics, recast.

I haven't seen them in person, but judging by the pictures, they are the same sculpts.

anyone ever actually buy them? :D
photo the metals clean would be good, or confirmation that the metal figures came on a small base like the plastics (i demand hight uniformity for my orks, and i'm lazy).

I accidentally ebayed some way back. They are the same. Or at least virtually indistinguishable.

To update this for any rivit counters out there, i've now got an SG metal bike to compare to an old plastic and they are different . :o

The metal bike is based on the same sculpt as the plastic, but has 7 added rivets per side and the addition of an ork 'jaw' front plate. This also means that the image selling the bikes on the SG site was NOT a photo of the metal bikers, but old plastic ones.

Picture (forgot to mark the rivet on the rear gun housing):

following that up, anyone found pictures/cast of the metal SG boar rider? wonder if it also had some small modifications.

What about going with microworld boar riders apoc? F grandma wendy when you can support a different producer. I know it doesn't follow the aesthetic your looking for though.

I already have MWG board riders, very characterful sculpts. I've also got enough of the old plastic board riders to play with now, at this point i'm just curious to see if the boars were changed as well as the bikers ;D

Further update, this time on the boars: the metal boars sold in the feral pack by SG are different from the plastics, again, looking to be based on the plastic but with slight modifications. While i haven't got my hands on one, I spotted some in spaint2k's log over on Warseer (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthrea ... I-BFG-Epic)) and he obligingly took some comparison photos, which i've edited together here: (plastic on the right, metal on the left).

[Image
Quote:
The plastic ones are slightly chunkier than the metals. They are slightly thicker from left to right and the circle on the left flank of the plastics is more circular than on most of the metals.

The only major difference is the appearance of the right hind leg, as viewed from the left side of the model. The metal models have had the area under the tail filled in with fur.

If anyone has some metal ones i'd be keen to buy one or two, or swap for plastics ;)

Some shrinkage and deformation would be expected as a normal part of the metal casting process.
