Hi Everyone,

Ive been playing SM for a couple of years now and after persistently receiving my arse on a plate I got thinking about "How would SM do with some other more interesting units?". Given most of the SM units are generally well represented by GW I naturally turned to FW for a bit of inspiration. Obviously I would need miniatures to represent these more interesting units and given I enjoy making/painting these little guys than losing virtually every game I play I figured I would give a little "Scratchbuilding" a go.

So, here Is my first attempt at a FW CAESTUS ASSAULT RAM using laminated polystyrene sheets and lots of superglue.

So what do people think?? It took me about two weeks of evenings to build but was a lot fun - needs some tidying and am awaiting some help from a friend to cast a couple more for a squadron, then I will think about giving it a coat of paint....

Sir, tiss a 'beaut.
If one was so inclined they would be appreciated to put up some stincils\measurements so that others may follow your lead

Drawing up plans is a fair undertaking in itself :) Unfortunately I only thought about this when I was half way through building it - then I was shown a much better example from another regular TC member and I figured noone would be interested... also the whole process was a little organic so I wasnt exactly sure how it was going to turn out!

Righty!

I put this one together for a skirmish event last year. I wanted to beef out my Land Speeders with a tornado but I didnt have enough free minitures to modify. I preferred the MkII design over either the MkI or MkIII but couldnt find any on ebay at the time.

No plans for this one either but it was simple enough to put together ;)

Hey Bob, really impressed with your Cestus, where did you get your polystyrene sheeting? Having trouble googling up anything suitable! Thanks in advance.

Check out Evergreen
http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com/

That stuff seems to be stocked in just about any good hobby store it seems.

As Jimmy says, you should be able to get it from most decent hobby shops. I got mine from http://www.alwayshobbies.com/

I got a number of sheets of different sizes ranging from 2.5mm down to 0.really_really_thinmm.

If you are planning to get the thicker sheets consider what you will be cutting them with. I used a number of modeling knives but found life much harder going above 1mm (I wish I had my fathers bench jigsaw!). If you want 'thick' and you dont have a jigsaw I would work with thinner sheets, laminate then sand.

Thanks for everyones comments they've given me a much needed poke to get this project finished! Just finishing off and now reading up on casting ???

for heavier sheet score with a heavy knife and then snap. http://www.waeplus.co.uk/item/209462/St ... tAod7BEAow

above 3mm you'll still get hand cramp and wish for a jigsaw though.
