Just came across this and wondering what our resident fabricators think of it:
http://i.materialise.com/materials/high ... less-steel

Limited in size, but detail specs look good to my naive eyes (0.1mm detail, 0.3mm wall thickness). I'm wondering if printing in SS would be a good substitute for bronze masters, thus skipping a step? I don't really know anything about why bronze is used, other than it is strong.

max dimensions are too small for an injection mould print.

I don't know if sintering will give it enough strength either, I reckon a hardened bronze injection mould is possible and the best option for a DIY (if you have access to considerable tooling resources and workspace...) injection mould machine

and they do have to 'polish' finished pieces up a bit, which would be hard for a concave mold. Give it 6 months...

on a not-unrelated note, I spotted this recently, it's essentially the machine I had in my head as a DIY project..... bit pricy but not ludicrous.....

A hand cranked injection mould. Now that is proper DIY!
