Odd question, but I’m trying to guestimate how many pots of paint I’ll need to paint my Minotaurs SM army, as the base colour is going be done using an OOP GW paint and I may have a chance to pick some up via someone on here.

Unlike many of you I’ve yet to paint an epic army so I'm fairly unsure how much it’ll take but I’m thinking a pot and a half of the base colour might be enough. Does that sound realistic or am I underestimating and should get more?

I’m collecting slightly over one thirds of the chapter (11k points having totted it up). Excluding titans there will be:
56 Infantry stands
54 vehicles
3 superheavy marine vehicles
11 marine flyers (6 smaller ones, 4 thunderhawks, 1 truescale landing craft)
29 drop pods
1 BFG heavy assault carrier

What colors are you using though? Are you using bronze as your base?

Don't use an OOP paint!! That would me my advice :) Too easy to lead to later regrets. I know you are doing 11K, but it still might not be enough to cover all the crazy options you want down the track... such has been my experience.

I'd have a good look at Coat d'arms or other manufacturers as their metallics are supposed to be pretty good, and some of the GW stuff is still not that great when it comes to metallics from what I've heard.

Yes, bronze is the base colour for the chapter.

I plan to paint mine like the below Minotaurs (seen online here). I know I could use something sort of similar but I really like the look of that scheme and want to copy it exactly so will risk it. I have half a pot to start off with and will likely take years to paint everything in the army.

Is the base bronze colour being dry brushed on? and if so how easy is it to dry brush as a paint? i'd guess 2 pots +/- half a pot depending on how easy it is to dry-brush with as a paint.

Thanks! The bronze is actually painted on, over a light brown spray undercoat

Also, that is many drop pods :o going for a 'true' troops:pods ratio?

Absolutely :) Correct number of Drop Pods, plus weaponised Deathstorm pods, all based on a CD per formation.

Hi
3 pots. Then you won't have to worry.

Would like to see the drop pods, are the original or custom ?

With some weathering you could easily get the same effect with what i've done here.

I used dwarf bronze, washed with badab black, drybrushed with bronze again. The red is red gore on the bottom, blood red on the top. with a little weathering you can get the same effect as that army.

really depends on how you decide to paint them up. For the IF that I did for Cal, I went through two pots of Sunburst Yellow since I was able to do one coat thinned over white but I went through probably three or four pots of gryphonne Sepia that couldn't really be thinned for the effect.

I'd guess you can get through everything with two full pots if you thin the paint and end up needing two coats especially if you've primed white and undercoat with thinned out redish brown like Dark Flesh since it'll hide the areas that don't coat with the metallics quite as evenly. It'll get more expensive paint wise if you start drybrushing though.
