I've finally got enough miniatures to field a good Chaos army! But before I can field them in battle, I need to paint them! I should warn anyone expecting a painting masterclass to have a look at other painting blogs on this site! I am a complete amateur and am just looking to paint my miniatures to a passable standard!

I decided that the first thing I would paint would be a Lord of Battles but I was naive in the extreme as to what I was letting myself in for! The detailing was a nightmare and the job ended up taking hours upon hours! Was it worth it? I let you be the judge of that!

More to come over the following weeks/months!

Have you tried using a black undercoat? While it will make the bright red harder to achieve (you'll need layers or foundation etc) small missed areas would be harder to see. As it is the small white bits peaking through where they shouldn't be stand out a bit. A wash would be a quick way to add some depth to the red.

Purple or green washes (yes green) do wonders for adding depth to red.
on the black I'd edge highlight with chardon granite and follow up with uniform grey for an extreme edge.

really quick way to make them pop.

I'm loving seeing these great old models from the heyday of epic. Keep up the great work!!

I've got a brown rinse, do you think that will be ok to use on this? It was only recently that one of the chaps in Games Workshop advised me to use a rinse but this was for a grey rockface I was painting. I was worried that the rinse might trash this job but I'm happy to give it a go if anyone can reassure me!

Yes its worth it.

Brown rinse ? don't know. Maybe experiment on somthing like a spare land raider first or pop to the shop for some other colour rinses as recomended.

Just think its great your doing a Chaos army.

Watching.

Thanks for the tips and the encouraging words everyone! I'll go in and have a wee chat with the fellow in GW about rinses tomorrow.

Will post up some updated pics of the Lord of Battles & Angron later tonight. Meantime, I'm going to be painting up the Juggernaughts of Khorne. Everyone here knows I'm old-school, so does anyone know what the original colour scheme was - or even better have a picture of - for the GW painted Juggers?

Hmm, it hasn't came out in the pics, but I bronzed up the metalwork on the Lord of Battle's arms. The flash just makes it look like the whole arm is red!

Yeah flash is a killer when it comes to making out details. However it looks like it's on the right track!

Good work!! :)

Lookin good. Might be the flash, but they look as if they could use a dark dark red wash.
