Also the flying stand you get with Landing craft is pretty sturdy itself. If you drill a brass rod through it it will help reinforce its load capacity and give it strength.

I was looking at the GW flying stand for 28mm aircraft, but it might be too big. Does anyone have a picture of it next to an epic scale mini?

The 40K flying stand is very big and not very beautiful. I've searched replacement for them and I found 2 possibilities:

- DragonForge Flying Stands

- Corsec Engineering omni-stands

I think I'll give a try to the dragonforge ones, they seem to be very strong.

I've got a few miniatures (Squat airships and a couple of Iron Eagle Gyrocopters) where the stand had been glued in but then snapped off, leaving the glued tip permanently jammed in the little groove. I've since tried to superglue stands on to these but with limited success. Blue tac seems to be the only (unsatisfactory) solution to the problem, but can anyone suggest something better?

Rare earth magnets ;)

I use magnets for my epic flyers, one on the top of the stand, one under the mini. For lightweight flyers (TBolt, Valks) I use some 3mm (in diameter)*2mm (height), for bigger flyers (like the SG thudnerhawk), some 5mm*3mm.

For the SM battlebarge, I use some back2base-IX stands like this:

I'll have a similar problem when I get round to my truescale Landing Craft (to be converted from the metal one, plus bits from 2 Thunderhawk Transporters and lots of plasti-card).

I'll be using 1cm thick clear plastic acrylic rod with magnets on to support mine. Probably clear epoxied to a 60mm base, pinned if necessary, though hopefully not. The base then can be the same depth, looks, ect as others in the army rather than looking different like other flying stands. I'll then be using different thicknesses of plastic rod as flying rod for Land Speeders, Thunderhawks, Assault Marines, ect. I did this previously with my Vulture yonks ago).

Pinning. Many of my metal Battlefleet Gothic ships are done that way. I cut off the little tab at the top of the flying stand, hand-drill a little hole, and stick a piece of paperclip in there. I do the same at the bottom of the ship (in some cases, into the broken plastic stuck in there). I only glue the paperclip to the stand, not to the ship.

How I reinforced the base for my SM Landing Barge :
