Hullo!

I've got the original Adeptus Titanicus buildings like this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warhammer-spa ... 3a7bee83c1

I was wondering if anyone knew if it was ok to spraypaint these? I'm planning on using the GW roughcast spraypaint.

I'm worried that if I do it may melt the polystyrene! Any advice on this matter would be much appreciated!

Cheers!

I've never owned them myself but I think I heard it melts the polystyrene.

It does. Your best bet is to cover them in brush on first, gesso ought to protect them pretty well.

Thanks for the advice! I'll see if I can acquire some gesso later on today!

Cheers!

Yes, they are a "styro-foam" like substance, I (big) brush painted them with water based paint ... NO spray ... http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f248/ ... am_E40ooo/ Here's a piece styrofoam I made into a building a long time ago ... and experimented with spray ... didn't turn out too bad ... but I wouldn't always recommend it ... Great minds think alike Biss. Was wondering the same thing myself about the old AT buildings as I have around 20 that I would like to paint and wasn't sure if the newer sprays still eat polystyrene. Guess it's a paint brush and pot then.

Yeah, they'll probably melt to some degree. However, sealing them with PVA or acrylic paint by hand first should allow you to follow up with a spray. Just make sure to be super thorough with your basecoat.

This is where airbrushes shine. Even if you don't have anything nice you can get a really good base coat with even a crappy $20 one that will allow you to follow up with all the rattlecans you want :)

I sprayed mine with Army Painter grey, worked fine for me. But I'd recommend testing on the underneath first just in case.

I decided not to risk it. Doing it the old fashioned way... It's a work in progress.

A 2nd coat of grey is definitely going to be required - and yes I know the still need to paint the bloody doors!

After numerous instances of tinkering with painting the buildings, I'm finally finished!... I think!

So what did you finally decide to undercoat/prime them in?

Cheers Legion!

And Matt: I'll be honest, they had been painted back when I was a child. See a couple of pics above, the blue on the doors? That was what the whole buildings had looked like. If memory serves me correctly they were painted with the old Humbro paints. Not pretty.
As for my new paint job, it was all done the old fashioned way, hand painted with acryllics. I'd have loved to have spraypainted the base grey to save time but after the good people above warned me about it, I wasn't for taking chances. Painting in the black windows was extrememy tedious! Painting the horizontal lines in a lighter grey seemed to make quite a difference, it took my feelings about the paint job from "meh" to "s'alright"!

Cool. Was wondering if you had discovered a secret undercoat that worked.
Suspect I will just buy some cheap water based black from somewhere and use that as a base.
