Deployment: Left flank

Marines (L to R): Inquisitor flanked by 2 HQ units, Terminator Company, 1st Land Raider Squadron from Company, behind which is a Chaplain, standalone bike squadron and the 1st Land Speeder unit from Ravenwing.

Eldar: Tempest Squadron (from Host), Avatar, full Grav Tank Host carrying Striking Scorpions, Howling Banshees & 1 Guardian Squad from the Defender Host, Jet Bike Squadron, Dark Reapers, Warlock & Vyper Jet Bikes.

Deployment: Centre Flank

Marines: Entire Ravenwing (except HQ), whole Land Raider Company, Tech Marine, Warhounds.

Eldar: Mostly covered by previous post (left flank) + Warlock Titan plus Dire Avengers.

Marines: Entire Devastator Company plus Land Raider squad.

Eldar: More jetbikes, other Tempest detachment plus 2 squads of Guardians.

I was in charge of the Marines, my nephew took control of the Eldar. I was looking to score a win after suffering 4 defeats on the trot and then a draw last game...

Turn 1 Left Flank

The game gets underway with a major battle instigated in the centre of the board on my latest piece of terrain! When I put the building together [ viewtopic.php?f=28&t=24336 ] I hadn't envisioned that it would be the focus of such a brutal battle!

My Terminator HQ flew out of the blocks to snatch the objective in that building but was quickly surrounded by Guardians! I deliberately held off on moving the rest of Deathwing into the building until the Eldar's Scorpions and Banshees stormed in. The biggest bonus of the hurried deployment of the aspect warriors was that the entire Grav-Tank Host moved into range for attack from my Land Speeders!

Elsewhere on the left flank, Eldar Tempests advanced to seize objective 6 while I used an HQ unit to take objective 4...

Turn 1: Centre Flank

The Eldar's jet bikes instigate an audacious assault upon objective 3, in a crater deep in Marine territory. My Marine bikes engage them in close assault, but they are counter-attacked. More units of bikes pour in to create a huge cycle confrontation! My Land Speeders could have joined this battle, but they were sent off to the left flank to attack Grav-Tanks (see above).

The Pulsar-armed Warlock Titan strides ominously forward, but before it had the opportunity to unleash its firepower my Warhound managed to land several hits with Turbo-Laser destructors! One of these shots found its way through the holofields to cause significant damage to the head. Failure to roll 4+ then prevented the Warlock Titan from causing any damage to the Marine ranks, lucky for them!

Turn 1: Right Flank

Opportunistic Rhinos snatch an objective 5 while a Warhound charges alongside them. That inferno gun should come in handy against the 2 squads of Guardians in nearby woods next turn! A unit of jet bikes jump Devastator troops and a melee ensues...

The Eldar take objective 2 but at a price... The Terminators smash the Howling Banshees, several Guardians die before the Terminator HQ succombs, while a number of Grav Tanks are destroyed in Close Combat!

Both forces of bikes are all but obliterated - the Eldar get the better of the conflict, but Land Raiders mop up most of the victors! The two surviving jet-bikes manage to take the objective... for now!

Turn 1 Right Flank End Phase

Fortune shines upon the Marines! Devastators are fortunate to get the better of the bikes, while the Land Raiders resist the heavy firepower of the Tempests!

The turn ends with the Eldar in control of 5 of the 8 objectives and gain some extra points for breaking a bike squadron, but the breaking of the Banshees and the Wind Rider Host means that the scores are close!

Eldar: 27 VPs
Marines: 24 VPs
