So,

I was (re)watching Enemy of the State, that so-so thriller featuring Will Smith/Gene Hackman.
One of the last scenes, 2hrs in, shows Will Smiths character's son, reading a Golden Demon pamphlet. It could be a White Dwarf but it didn't look like it.

So - wonder what the deal was there? Deliberate (you'd have to think so)? Paid for or some cast/film member handing the kid anything to read as part of the scene..?

I've noticed and wondered about that myself. I suspect it was a matter of what the actor brought along to read anyway.

product placement- companies pay good money to have their products placed in movies / TV shows etc.

That's my guess, too.

Not GW, as far as I know. There's also the fact that only someone who is already familiar with GW product will connect GW with Golden Daemon, which makes it a piss poor product placement (ooh, alliteration) if it is one.

The issue with this is all about the demo graphic.
Would "Enemy of the State" have war gamers, and typically the younger gamers as that's where the money is, as a large enough demographic to warrant whatever fee to pay to include it?
I can't imagine so.

I have seen some surprising product placement from the mundane eg breakfast cereal to known brand names eg perfumes etc. The more subtle the less expensive.
Anyones guess in this case.

Wargamers watching movies about the government spying on its citizens with high tech gadgets, explosions, and espionage... Yeah, I'd say that is a target audience.

It's extremely unlikely to be product placement.
GW don't have a regular advertising budget, for one thing.

Yeah, this. GW dont do regular advertising outside their own mag, so I seriously doubt that its deliberate product placement, and if it is it doesnt show the GW logo or anything that people unfamiliar with GW already would recognise or connect with.

I suspect that this is a case of 'the kid needs something to read... anyone got something?'. This is coupled with the frequent rumour that Will Smith is a GW wargamer (and a rumour of a similar Easter Egg in I Am Legend).

I am not a fan of that film, so I can neither confirm nor deny, and I wont be watching it for that. It may be people getting it confused with Enemy of the State, of course.
