I do not think anyone has any objection to a repository of stats - BL is the man for that definitely.

If all those with the loudest voices are happy to oblige, then there is no issue.

Time and again however we have a push for lists to do nothing other than to represent the new $$ trend for GW. At some point we have to say no.

The Warmaster community have a good example - set lists that do not change to every whim - and if people want a whim, they do it in their own backyard.

I think that if we were to include the new $$ examples, units should become generalised to 'counts as' (see idea on Chaos Walker above) to not upset something that has taken years to get to a point where we have some stability - that does not just include Chaos.

I'm with you, list gets closed then new toys go into something new.

While I am not a fan of most of the new 40k stuff , I strongly believe having a list of friendly play units will help in this as well.

I won't touch a finished list to include some new units! Not even Red Corsairs The new Chaos units don't fit there anyway.
And as you rightly stated: Time for playtesting and list developement is limited.
This "Catalogue of Experimentel Formations" would be the way to go.

Depends on the list. The Stygian list is very generic but dosen't have much interest, someone might want to do a specific list (I'm thinking about a generic Dark Mechnicus list) where these would be featured in detail.

My shifting projects

As I said earlier, there is nothing wrong with players creating their own unofficial lists. The problems start when people want to integrate new units into core armies which are already well balanced, and have a wide enough variety of units. Changing these lists is unnecessary, and unhelpful, in my opinion, and is best avoided.
