I will be making a 6mm landing pad fairly soon.

However I am not quite sure what to make it look like.
It must have a flat base as I will be resin casting it myself, so nothing complicated either.

But what shape?
Circular, Hexagonal, Square?
Ramps leading up?
Plain surface or some sort of cross on it?

Ideas please you lovely people.

Hexagon or round perhaps. Some kind of sign on it like on helipads to identify it to the pilot? Maybe some signal lights on the sides

I'd go with one 5cm, one 8cm. Between the two they'd fit most 6mm flyers.

:O That would cost twice as much to make and people might only buy the one size....

:(

I will err on the bigger size, rather than double my costs.

What would the GW flyers need in terms of landing space?

Might want to avoid being too similar to the Forgeworld stuff (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Epic-40000/ ... 00_Terrain).

The GW or the FW? Most GW flyers and FW fighters would fit in a 5cm with room to spare. FW bombers/transports like the Marauder or Thawk are much larger and would need the 8cm.

Agreed ... for a number of reasons ...

You should try and create it so that if needed they can take 2 of your landing pads to create a big one. Give it some thought both sizes no extra cost!

I would like to see semi-circular/semi-hexagonal landing pads, that can then be mounted to the sides of cliffs, buildings, etc, maybe with an additional runway section as well.

I'd think about making it multi-part like the way a dinner table canhave leaves added to it.
Want a round (or hex) shape? Take two end parts. Rectangle? Two ends and a middle part. Really long rectangle, more than 1 middle part. Half circle, just one end.

^ I'd buy into this. Only needs two molds, both smaller then a full pad would need.

So...

2 moulds.
1 with a semi-circle in it and 1 with a rectangle piece.
Then you can make a variety of shapes, something like this?

Yep. Like that.

As a personal preference, I would prefer hex landing pads, with the width of the rectangle sections being the same as the length of one side of the hex pad. This means that we could add them to the outside and connect a couple of landing pads as well, use them as runways, etc...

I too would prefer half-hex ends, with rectangles twice as wide as deep, to allow more complex shapes by adding to all four sides.
