Turn 3 Centre Flank End Phase
Howling Banshees and Striking Scorpions cut a bloody swathe through the IG ranks. The Predators have some success in cutting down a few of these troops. Doomweaver webs fall upon a Baneblade but to no avail, they cannot cut through the reinforced steel armour of these superheavy tanks. At the opposite end of the board, several Prism cannon pay the price for straying into the open.

Turn 3 Right Flank End Phase
The Phanton Titan staggers onward after suriving volley after volley of fire from Heavy Troops, Shadowswords, Baneblades, Predators and Sentinels. The only thing the IG have left to throw at it is the kitchen sink.

Turn 3 casualties.
To quote Clint Eastwood; "I've never seen so many men wasted so badly".

Turn 4 Left Flank post-movement
This flank is almost completely cleared. Harlequins give some Rough Riders a kicking while Grav Tanks continue to pop up and fire at the IG's defences.

Turn 4 Right Flank Post-Movement
Ogryn finally make contact with the Eldar's own superheavy tanks. Most of them are mown down by the Tempests' extensive arsenal, but they do manage to destroy one of the Tempests in the ensuing close combat phase.

Turn 4 Action Shot
This is where the real action is! The Eldar must capture the stronghold this turn to win the game. The only way they can do this is by eliminating all of the IG troops within the stronghold.

Turn 4 Action Shot
In closer detail: Close combat skirmishes rage outside of the stronghold but it is the battle within that is critical.
The Howling Banshees (in the centre of the building) attack the Commissar while an HQ unit flanks them from the rear. A piercing psychic scream from the Banshees reduces the Commissar's brain to soup. The HQ unit is faced with battling the Banshees alone. Sickened and enraged by the wholesale slaughter of their brothers, the Banshees cannot allow the fallen to have died in vain. Gripped by a battle fury, they personally put the HQ unit to the sword. All that stands in the way of Eldar victory is a unit of Heavy Troops who face battle against Swooping Hawks...

Turn 4 Action Shot
The Phantom Titan attempts to stamp upon the Sentinels. In the volley of shots this turn, it loses its remaining pulsar, suffers head damage and a reactor leak! "She cannae take much more of this Captain!"
The engineers struggle to bring the leak under control but the damage is too extensive! The battered Titan finally cannot take any more, and it is blown apart in a huge fireball of plasma! The explosion wipes out the Sentinels and a Heavy unit but this does not take the shine off the Titan's destruction for the IG commander. For four turns he has fought to destroy this Titan. Now, at the end, he has finally succeeded!

Turn 4 Action Shot
It all comes down to this one last desperate battle! Anakin v Obi-Wan, Yoda v Emperor, Luke v Vader? They've got nothing on this duel for victory!
Swooping Hawks have a Close Assault Factor of +2, while the Heavy Troops have +1. If the Eldar player can equal the IG player's roll then he has ensured victory! The Eldar rolls 7, giving a total of 9, but the IG player rolls 9, giving a total of 10! The Swooping Hawks are killed and the IG still have a foothold in the stronghold, denying the Eldar their victory!

Post-match analysis: This really was a war of attrition! With only one objective to fight for, the full focus for the Imperial Guard player was to delay and cut down as many of the Eldar as possible. They were very succesful in doing exactly this, and the Eldar were fortunate to be in a position to win the game in turn 4. That the game came down to one last close-assault meant that this was the most thrilling conclusion to a game of Epic that I have ever experienced!
Net Epic Gold: This was my first experience of playing Net Epic Gold and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The 5cm rule about the embarking/disembarking of troops from transport vehicles was a big improvement on what had went before. The loss of the Avatar (for me as the Eldar player) due to the end of fixed saves was frustrating but made a lot of sense. The fixed 2+ save made the Avatar near-invincible and a constant irritation. At least now there is a chance to eliminate him. The super-heavy tanks damage rules were a big improvement, I always felt that these vehicles could be destroyed a bit too easily. The movement phase was improved by allowing all movement to happen unit by unit (as opposed to all charge movement then all advance movement that I was used to). Even though I was unsuccesful, I also liked the re-introduction of Titans stomping on vehicles (I remember this from the original Adeptus Titanicus / Space Marine rules). We did forget to use snap fire though - next time!
Tweaks to this scenario for the future: The attacking player should be able to target units in the stronghold, even if they are command units. As the only objective is to capture this building, the normal rules about not being able to target HQ units unless they are the closest unit should not apply in this case only. The skimmers of the Eldar meant that they could ignore the razor wire which delays those who travel on the ground. If the attackers were a force other than Eldar the game should be adapted that the stronghold be taken within 5 turns rather than 4.
Hope this report was of interest to some here, I enjoyed writing it!

NB: I have just discovered I never picked up on the Net Epic Gold pop-up rule which states that units popping up can only be snap-fired at. One of the two Tempests that I lost would have survived had I noticed this! On the other hand I don't think it is fair on the opponent that they should have a -1 to hit my Tempests & Grav Tanks when they pop-up...
