Hornets certainly should not be able to garrison.

Why?

'cos they'd be too good.

Luckily, each eldar army list explicitly limits the units that are allowed to garrison. So, giving hornets the scout special rule does not necessarily mean that they will have the ability to garrison.

Not that I am pro-scout for hornet, I am just making sure everyone understands how eldar lists usually work.

Yes, but what I am arguing here is that we could get rid of either Rangers or WW for Saim Hann and give them garrisoning Hornets instead.

They would be quite awesome, but not anymore than Typhoons

Nope, they'd be too good.

Did you take under consideration that Saim-Hann actually has very little to handle entrenched artillery?

No Void Spinners

No Air Assault

No 75 cm ranged Skimmer

And at the same time is based on non-coverable 5+ save infantry?

Garrisoning Hornets coudl fill that niche.

Yup. I'm actually quite familiar with how that style of list plays.

Well, people like the twin Pulse Lasers. That's fine, we'll switch back and have three-strong formations. I've decided to conform to Mymeara's stats (FF6+) to facilitate integration should E&C wish to have Mymeara officially added to the NetEA roster.

In response to other discussion that has gone on: Hornet's won't be added to the list of Garrisoners. As it stands they can double from their deployment zone and reach out to the opponent's table edge with 6x AT4+ shots along a 120+cm stretch. That's a serious counterbattery asset. Allowing them to garrison forward for greater reach would be too much.

As light vehicles they can also deploy out of a wraithgate, so still have the 'garrison' ability to some extent, and this also means they can single out of it and hit a section of the enemy deployment zone. Or they can combine with Storm Serpent for greater reach.

I still feel that a formation of three is too fragile, while even six shots is a bit OTT, hence the suggestion of a formation of five with single shots for 200 points.

The weapons are not different enough to justify restatting. I'm curious, why do you feel the Hornets are too fragile, but advocate a three unit formation of Fire Prisms?

Fire Prisms with the original AA are balanced in formations of three; more units and the AA becomes OTT. The Lance AA provides the unique differentiator from Falcons / Firestorms and Scorpions, while providing a unit that has elements of both units.

Hornet unit numbers are less critical than FPs, and IMO have an 'offensive scout' role - providing a scout screen needs more numbers, hence my suggestion earlier in the thread for five Hornets with weaker weapon stats for 200 points.

This formation is less scary out of a wraithgate - the secondary 30cm weapon barely gets to the deployment zone leaving 5x weaker shots from 5x units, and the shooting stats are geared to fall between Vypers and Falcons.
