I'm bringing my trangia, oil, matches, veggie sausages & eggs to fry; NOTHING CAN GO WRONG!!!

Good reminder Dave: I know I for one have previously been guilty of making mistakes & asking to go back; with a 16 activation army there's no excuses!

If you are going to hit, hit where it hurts. ;)

However, your other points are more than valid and I'd still attend another tournament there.

I personally don't really care if there are prizes, or trophies. I go to play a game or 3 of toy soldiers with a pleasant group of players.

Food wise as long as there is enough for everyone (not always the case at some events) then I'm happy.

As to lists I'm happy to view it on your device of choice, phone, pad or the like is fine by me. But providing a copy of your list for your opponents convenience is part of the rules pack.

And, as ever, if the event you want isn't happening, run it :D

a) Mangle wasn't paperless as there was paper for voting.
b) It wasn't intended to be paperless or planned accordingly, Curis forgot to print the score sheets off.

Despite the admin hiccup I actually do think more tournaments should be like Mangle. It had the best food by far of any tournament which judging by this thread is extremely important! There was also some variety in game types and the most prizes of any tournament.

What were the prizes? (I had to leave as it was running an hour late) I thought it was 1-2-3, 3 x painting which is exactly the same as EUK tournaments. Regarding game types I enjoyed the change (I like the BOTC escalating engagement too) but Objectivity could do with some work IMO.

Food was slightly better than other events (but when it comes down to it ws still just cold sandwiches) and that was reflected in the price.

The requirement to have an armylist to show your opponent won't be changing, especially with the greater range of lists you might face.

I enjoyed the Mangle too and would happily go again but to hold it up as some kind of tournament ideal is dubious IMO given the issues (incorrect scoring, lateness, price, strange decisions)

Pretty much what Dave said, I'm coming to tourneys specifically because you Epic UK lot seem like a pleasant bunch who aren't there to play like it's a life or death situation. The exact opposite 'thing' that put me off ever going to a tourney for any other game systems (hello 40k / whfb!)

Raffles are a nice treat, but cetainly not a deal breaker, and at least everyone has a fair chance of walking away with something new and shiny if there is one.

Ditto.

I actually find 'tourney' Epic games more enjoyable than the casual games of WHFB I had at my games club. Go figure...

I think it's because games aren't taken with quite the same level of seriousness - and i mean that wholeheartedly in a good way! I've seen some serious strops during and after WHFB tournament games, and at the end of the day, what are we actually doing? Pushing little (extremely little in this case) toy soldiers around on a board and rolling some dice :)

Prizes and Trophies are a nice icing on the cake, but it's the great games and friendly atmosphere that keep me wanting to play more Epic events :)

Mangle wise, good event overall, but i'm not sure i'd want to brave a 1 day event in manchester again - that really took it out of me!

I'd like to have a shot at doing Manc. FSA this year with the snow was the longest toy soldier day I can recall having; 22hours between getting up and getting home.....
Things better go like clockwork this weekend as I don't have the option of a lie in on Sunday as the wife is working and I have to look after an increasingly mobile junior.....

Without internet access at the venue how does one check that what's on the list is what's on the table?

So basically put more work on the shoulders of the TO rather than the player?

That assumes that everybody is on TC regularily which is not the case

Having a written copy provides 2 things
- checks your list with what you are using
- allows easy explanation of your army to your opponent

I honestly can't see the difficulty in bringing a copy of your armylist - for EUK events I don't care if its printed, legibly written, on a tablet/phone, etched on metal or carved onto marble
