Bug, do you find that the paint on varnish alone provides enough protection?

I use the GW purity seal - is that enough? Should I use something along side it?

It is fine on its own if the slight shine that it leaves doesn't bother you. It is slightly thicker than most matte sprays so I doubt that you'd have a problem just using it

Do you have a local craft store like Michaels? If so check out the Krylon Gloss and Matte sprays if they sell them. Great coverage, and very good prices

Thanks PG. Yep, when my GW runs out i'll be changing - definitely less matt than i remember (in the mid 90s.) @BB - Protection seems fine though price dents your wallet. :D

Don't think we have Michael's here, and a very quick googling was coming up with £80+ for Krylon - shipped from US. But the other recommendations are useful for me. New store stocks Army Painter and can get the fabled Dull Coat online for a reasonable price online.

It appears that Krylon only sells in North America sadly.

Anyone know of a similar product in the UK and Europe?

I used to use GW matt but nowadays im more bothered about protection so use cheap car spray-very gloss though, so would reccommend taking any pics before varnishing (i usually forget though).

So far yes. It's actually very quick to apply (obviously not as quick as spraying but much quicker than I first imagined it would be) and two coats seems to do the job. The bonus is that it always applies correctly every time..
